    Exclamation Steering Wheel Vibration...

i have a 2001 corolla. Its been in and out of garages for the past few months trying to get rid of this steering wheel vibration problem. I'm not a car person so i'm not sure if this is normal. The steering wheel vibrates at high speeds. anyting over 50mph or so. The weird thing is it vibrates in waves. it goes from smooth to a noticable vibration over and over again. Logic would tell me if i had a damaged rim or needed a rotation the shaking would be constant, but i'm not a car guy like i said. anyone have an idea of whats going on? i'd keep on seeing mechanics but i don't feel like opening my bank account monthly to them. its been in for a damaged rim and its been in for a balancing and rotation. Unless i was charged for these services that never happened i'm not sure whats going on.
    please help.

hey mate it good be ur wheel bearings need adjusting if there to loose it will vibrate at high speeds and shutter when u brake. Jack up the wheels put 1 hand at the top and 1 at the bottom of the wheel then move it towards u and away from u if its loose u will feel and here a knocking sound.

could also be an alignment issue. i believe this periodic vibration symptom is somewhat classic of alignment problem or worn suspension parts. if rotating the tires or balancing doesn solve or change the location of the vibration, that is what i would look at next.

Did you check the brake rotors in the front? make sure they are not warped. Another thing you can check is your suspension. Let us know what you have done and check so far. If you have not done the alignment or wheel balancing then check those 2 things I mentioned.

One other thing that was not mentioned that is a slim possibility but it could happen is that the weight on your axel has either moved or gotten damaged so that the axel vibrates but you may notice a larger vibration. You can narrow it down to the front of the vehicle. Have you tried rotating and seeing if the vibration moves from your steering wheel to your seat? That could be a bad tire. The alignment and suspension checks are a great idea too. keep us posted! Good luck!
