Question Instrument panel lights

Hi

I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla. I bought it used and since that time the left side of the instrument panel hasn't been lit. No big loss if I knew how much gas I had. However, last weekend the rest of the panel lights went out. Now I can't see my speedometer after dark. I've checked all the fuses that I can find but everything looks fine. What else should I be checking? How would I change bulbs? Help!

Hey bud,
This is gonna take a similar course to what I wanna do. I want to change the color of my lighting. Now, since you've checked the fuses, it sounds like there's an electical problem concerning shorting, or the sort, deep in there. In order to check this and to change bulbs, too, you need to disassemble the instrument panel to get in there. I'm not sure exactly how thats done on your specific model, but a Chilton manual or the like will briefly explain it. Of course you could spend the money and take it to the shop. but i hate doing that. so poke around and see what you can find. good luck! keep us updated.

Trying to change the bulbs ? ... look upwards where your speedometer gage is ... theres suppose to have 2 screws ... take those 2 screws off and the panel should be able to slide out ... the only hard part is to take it out with the steering wheel in the way ...disconnect any wires attached to it .. and the light bulbs should be behind little plastic thingys that you just turn and pull .... if you havent done it yet tell me and ill take pictures and show you how you do it ... i changed mine to red ... looks way better now !

I have the same problem. Can I get these bulbs anywhere or do I have to go to the dealer? Thanks

If there was a short you would have a blown fuse You either have a bad ground or burnt out bulbs.IMO.

Check your instrument panel ground, check the bulbs, and last but not least,
check the instrument panel relay (if so equipped).
