I live way out in the country and have well water. I use to never wash my truck at home because of the water spots, mainly caused by lime. These lime spots were near impossible to remove. I bought a mr. clean auto wash which filters the water. I am very impressed with it. It works great and eliminates all the spots. There is two models of the mr. clean. I got the better one for thirty dollars at walley world. I highly reccommend one.
As for wax, I use the turtle wax liquid ice. It works great. It goes on easy and fast. It puts on a great shine and stays on the truck for a long time. I drive around 100 miles daily. Half of the trip is in flat farm country. The bugs are very bad. Sometimes it sounds like rain. I wash my truck once a week. The bugs come off a lot easier since I have been using the liquid ice. You don't have to scrub hard at all. I wax my truck about every four to eight weeks. The liquid ice doesn't make the black plastic turn white either. This stuff is slicker than butt grease.

I always wash by hand with a good wash mit and a good soap. Try the Meguiar's NXT Generation Wax. I looks awesome. But you really should prep the paint properly first. Check out the detailing section for the some advice.

Your truck could really shine...
