Default Ok Brandon, now the "whens"

Hats off to you and the huge write ups on "how to" detail the outside AND interior.

Now I want to ask the "whens"?.....

My dad always told me that the basic rule of thumb for needing to wax is when water no longer beads, especially since we all live in different climates.
Is this true?

Also, most people wash their vehicles every weekend or so. Can you apply a polish after every wash?

Pardon me if this has been mentioned somewhere else.

Honestly, I reapply wax when it either stops beading, or it stops being slick. The bigger the beads, the less your wax is protecting (for the most part).

I wash mine every week. Washing does nothing but help, it wont hurt. You could wash 3times a day for 30 years and all you would have is a shiney truck (and wrinkly hands).

A compound (abrasive) can be used 2-3 times a year. A non-abrasive polish can be used forever. A wax or sealant can be used forever.

If you mean polish such as something to remove swrils or to clean paint, I do that 3times a year on my truck. #105 isnt a polish, regardless of what it says, it's a sealant.

I do a complete buff about 2 times a year, polish 3-4 times a year, wax about every 2wks just cuz I have so many waxes I want to try, I cant keep anything on my truck.

Nah, as long as it's a pure wax, (non-cleaner wax). Wax and lightly polish as much as you want, compound only when needed.

If you use the 2bucket method of washing and always use good quality MF towels, you wont need to compound that much.

I gotta say...with all of the brands out there and then all of the products each has...this gets confusing!

I think I'm going to change over to the Duragloss products, but am still confused about using #652 pre-cleaner on a new (2 months) Tundra. Been using ICE.

I know everyone says #652 & #105 are a great combination, but do I need to use the abrasive (mild?) #652 this soon?

Thanks

The pre-cleaner takes off any crap that has landed on the paint in the 2months. Trucks are shipped by rail car and have embedded dirt and stuff in the paint. It also cleans up the paint ready for #105 to bond to the paint. #652 is very very mild, and would take years of polishing every day to wear down the clear.

You should also think about claying as well.
