here she is all waxed up and clean but not sure for how long, my son has a motocross race Sunday and we will be pulling the 30' toy hauler to the track Sat afternoon and spending the night, there will be dust every where, oh well at least it has a good coat of wax, he told me it was called nano wax. This guy does high end work at the shop, he had a Bently, red Ferrari, and a blac 911 Carrera that he was doing when I picked mine up. Any here's a few picks.

Nano-Wax is a Eagle One product. It's ok, but much much much better can be had with the stuff me and you have been pm'ing about. Also, be careful with letting water sit on the paint, nano-wax is not a very good durability canidate, so it will have max protection at most 2wks.

Brandon, the guy who detailed my truck used that nano wax. We went to the motocross races Sat after having it detailed Friday and it was covered in dust, got home and it poured rain for an hour or so. Sunday the entire truck is spotted but the dust was washed off. I tried to use meg quick detailer which worked OK but it left a residue that can only be seen when the sun hits it. Any suggestions!

I probably wouldnt have used QD on something like that. QD is only for minor dust, kinda like drivin for a minute, then wiping back off. And your truck is black, that just adds to the problems. Now you could use something like Poorboys Spray and Wipe or Chemical Guys *ONE*, those are VERY strong QD's, they wont scratch/swirl paint.

Honestly, your problem is probably that the nano-wax isnt slick enough to release the dust/dirt as well, or you are using too much QD. I'd just wash it, then try again. Pick up something locally called Duragloss Aquawax, use that after you wash, finish will be much slicker and easier to clean.

Default Re: Black paint

So I read Autopia's site when I bought my 04 Tundra DC brand new and employed their techniques - 2 bucket method with a "grit gaurd" as Brandon called it. High Quality and clean mits, water absorbers etc. 100% egyptian cotton towels with no polester backing, cut tags off, cut ends off towels. I clay barred it once and kept it up 1x/wk. Every now and then I'd fill the itty-bitty scratches with zaino, then coat over the top of it. I used rubbing compound once or twice on a few small spots. Came out fine. My point is it looked great and I tried hard to keep it up.

With these new "ultra-thin" water based paints on the 07+ Tundra's do I have to be "extra careful" about rinsing the mitt during washing, leaning up against it etc or do I simply employ the same methods as before?

If I employ the same methods will it scratch more because of the thin water based paint?

Toyota has really thin soft paint scratches easy on every color. Toyota's touch up paint is horrible. Very wet you have to apply several coats.

I would be extra careful anyway, no matter what paint it is. And if you employ the safe washing method, you will end up with perfect paint in the end.

I jsut don't want to take the 35k plunge and watch the paint turn swirled and see primer in the scratches (as some have stated) when I'm doing all I know to do...and doing it correctly.

You sound like you are washing the proper way, I wouldnt worry about it. Besides, if swirls appear, they are super easy to remove, with no harm done to the paint.

Honestly, Just go with a PC for a little more money. It's much safer and has many more uses than the rotary. Rotary is mainly for deep paint correction.

I purchased a 2003 Tundra AC in black. The paint looks good from a distance, but up close and in the sun, it's obvious that there are tons of swirl marks and small scratches. I've tried a few different scratch remover products - 3M, Kitt - followed by either Meguier's Cleaner Wax or NXT - and it looks better, but still shows a -lot- of scratches.

Is it reasonable to expect to get back to near-perfect paint on on a 5 year old black vehicle that obiviously wasn't given the 'kid glove' treatment during it's life? Is it worth getting a pro to machine buff the paint? Of should I just avoid looking at the truck in direct sunlight?
