    Default White Paint

I just bought a 2000 tundra with white paint. The paint finish is faded and chalky looking so I washed and used a clay bar. Much smoother but still chalky.
I have a porter cable da polisher to help. Can you guys recommend a method to improve way the paint looks?

    Thanks,

    Ken

Clay bar removed the contaminates, but wont do anything for the oxidation. Oxidation is what's causing your white to look faded. You will need to use the Porter Cable with a paint cleaner to remove the dead paint. I recomend Klasse AIO, or for a local offering, Color-X works FANTASTIC for removing oxidation.

After you remove the oxidation, you can evaluate the paint for swirl marks, scratches and then decide where to go from there.

    Brandon,

Got some Color-X coming. Do you have any advise on how to put in on with my porter cable?

    Thanks,

Just apply a dime size amt for the panel you are working on. Work it in till you see it break down or gloss re-appear. It may take 2 applications for it to work best, but it will be oxidation free after that.

Now you will need to apply a paint sealant or wax over that. Color-X will last only about a couple weeks on it's own, so top it with something for longevity.

    Thumbs up Re: White Paint

    Brandon,

You are "The Man"! Put on Meguiars ColorX today and 95% of the oxidation came off. It looks like a brand new vehicle. I do intend to go back and apply a second coat per your instructions and top it off with a wax. I picked up some NXT 2.0 which I hear makes the ColorX pop. If I can find my PC I will use that to make it faster. Doing it by hand took me a couple hours.

    Thanks again.

you must continue to keep it detailed(waxed), chalky ,faded ,etc paint ,mean's it's thinning out. so i would suggest continueing to keep waxing the vehicle.
if you don't, your problem will continue to happen even faster.and will get worse.
and what will eventually happen is the paint will be gone, in some spot's.
i would once you have the paint as best as you can :
polish it ,seal it, and wax it.

    gorilla,

I was planning to use the ColorX one more time before waxing with NXT 2.0. Probaby do this 2 times per year and see how she looks.

    Thanks,

Once you get the oxidation out, polish the paint to remove any swirls and scratches, then seal with the NXT 2.0 (good stuff btw). You should only have to re-polish 2x a year, but make sure you wax at least every 2-3months. That way you always have optimum protection.
