DetailingGeneral discussion forum for detailing your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "I'm addicted to washing my tundra", within the Detailing forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I was wondering how often and to what extent everyone washes their Tundra? I was a detailer for a while and I have always been a bit obsessive about keeping my vehicles clean. However, I find myself washing this truck about twice a week. This is by far the nicest truck I have ever owned and it just makes me sick when it's dirty. I think i'm secretly waiting for it to get some significant micromarring so I can break out with the PC and make that red look deep and wet!
So, what kind of washing habits do you have with your Tundra?
careful there buddy. Tundra paint is thin. continue washing it twice a week and after a few months you will be washing primer. As for using a PC on it....haha

ok ok im exaggerating....kind of. haha
Yeah, I hear ya. When I got the truck, I prepped it then put on a coat of Wolfgang deep gloss sealant topped with a few coats of collinite 845. Had I not done this recently, there is no way I would wash this truck that frequently.
I wonder how quick somebody who has not properly washed/waxed will have problems with the paint?
Hard to do it in the winter when the temperature doesn't get above freezing, but I'll do it twice, once by hand in the summer, wax once every month or so.

In the summer I can usually get away with 1 wash per week. In between washes like every other day I use Eagle 1 wipe and shine with a microfiber towel instead of washing. Does a very nice job and I can do in about 15-30min depending on size of vehicle. Also it adds some protection.
I have never washed my Tundra nor any other vehicle I have ever owned. I figure since it's exposed to the elements all of the time it's just gong to get dirty again. Eventually the layer of dirt probaby protects the paint. Once I sold an 6 year old white Dodge Caravan to a friend who finally washed all of the grime off of it and found that the paint job was practically sparkling underneath. Look, I really enjoy the hell out of my truck but I'm simply not going to let the inevitable scratches and dings bother me and it doesn't really matter to me what people see when the look at my truck. I do try to spray off the bug juice after a long drive, though.

Buy your truck outside of the Gulf States Toyota monopoly if you don't want to compromise.

i wash my truck to keep the mud from messing up the paint. I park in the dirt sometimes at work and after i go off roading i gotta wash the mud out.

Once a week by hand is about what I average. I will run it through a touchless in between because I have huge double oak that attracts a massive flock of birds at least once a week, and those little sh*ts lay down the guano like you have never seen. Only happens in the spring time, so I guess its not to bad. I did find one handy trick for those of you that like to wash by hand, but hate lugging that 5 gallon bucket around.
Go down to wally world and pick yourself up one of those cheap lawn chemical dipensers, the one that fits on the end of the hose. Pour your favorite car wash in the cup, set it to flow at 3-6 oz and away you go. Gets the soap all over the car, like a prewash. DO THIS ON A COOL CAR IN THE SHADE ONLY. Otherwise you will be screwed.
For Christmas, my wife got me a 6 month "Car Wash Club" at the local car wash. I can basically go and get it washed as many times as I want during that 6 months, I can go everyday if I want. It's a machine wash but hand dried. I haven't activated it because we are moving (I don't know when) and the certificate isn't transferrable once it is started. I've considered selling on Craigslist.
I really want to be one of those guys I see Saturday mornings, faithfully washing their truck with pride. I tried it and it's not for me. so sad. I love my Tundra, I want it clean. If I could hire somebody, yeah, then I would wash it. or they would, I mean.
