DetailingGeneral discussion forum for detailing your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "what product to clean dash with?", within the Detailing forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Armor All is ok now that they have re-forumulated. They are now water based and have more UV protectants, no more cracking dash.
One of the better OTC dressings available IMO.
I've never been a fan of AA simply because a shiny dash looks like a cheap job to me. But on the other hand, I think the whole "cracking dash" rumor is an urban myth that has spun out of control. It used to be the big topic of the detailing forums years ago, but has since died down quite a bit. I've always wondered if there was even a single case of a cracked dash linked to AA.
Another vote for just a damp cloth. I don't use any cleaners, except vinegar and water as a homemade window cleaner.
When I get a stain on the carpet or upholstery that needs to get removed, I put a damp cloth on the end of a large closed end wrench and carefully go back and forth with medium pressure until it comes up.
I use kirkland baby wipes on mine. I have never liked the shiney dash and the wipes work very well.

I know of two cases of dash cracking linked to Armor All. Or rather the dash cracking when they stopped using Armor All.

From my understanding, AA used to have alcohol in it that caused *drying* of the vinyl/leather that *lead* to cracking.
As far as it being to greasy, honestly, I find AA just as nice looking as 303. I will say that I dilute the bottle with just a touch of distilled water. If you use strait AA, you will need to buff off the excess to get the look you are after.
Great cheap alternative to 303. Enzittes is good stuff as well i've heard.

I may just have to break down and send you a bottle of Cockpit Premium to try.

I use a small amount of AA on a soft cloth and it never makes my dash look shiny.

I use a product that Toyota has out called Vinyl & Leather Protectant. I first tried it in a small little location and it seemed to work out. Then I risked it over the entire dash and it turned out great. It comes in a metal can with a spray head....I just sprayed it on a micro cloth then spread it on the dash. Works great on the leather seats also.
