Default Road Tar that's been on car for couple of years

Was wondering, my girlfriend's Ford Escape has road tar on the quarter panels, and step up running boards that's been on her car for 2+ years. When I take a little paint thinner or varosole on a rag and put some elbow grease into it, a small amount comes off. Do you guys that detail all the time professionally, have any suggestions for a product out there that I can buy and use to rub this off and clean her car up?

Tarminator or sometimes Kerosene will work just a hair better than paint thinner. Tarminator can be found at your local auto-parts store.

Gold Class™ Bug & Tar Remover G10716 Product Information i normally just wipe it off ASAP but a Ford would get Gas on a rag then wax area! A well waxed car should clean up with no issues with out any tar remover unless ya drove it like just behind the tar machine! Fords do deserve wax on occasion just like any other auto and i would not use gas on a newer model car i would use stuff in the link above!

WD-40 works pretty well and is safe on the finish.

gasoline also works well. Put a little on a microfiber and blot it on. Let it disolve, and then gently wipe off.

Regardless of what you use, be sure to properly clean and protect the area after you get the tar off.

What he said. WD40 works great. Tar melts away and is completely safe on the finish.
