I use household "sudzy" (contains added soap) ammonia diluted with water. Spray on the grill / front end and keep spraying so it remains wet for a few minutes, then wand wash gets them off easily. In the absence of ammonia, Windex will work.
I don't know what they are called, but the "scrubber" you use with body wash in the shower works great. Everytime I replace the one in my shower, the old one becomes my new bug scrubber. Doesn't even think about scratching paint and you can use it with plain car wash. No special chemicals necessary

bug sponge and good soap. i like gold class carwash. agreed, they come off much more easily if you can pre soak em a little. i live near a large river and fight them all summer long. try to find what the Canucks are using...they've got some serious bugs up there.
