There is no doubt you can buy cheaper, and Meguiar's is a common fix, but based on user comments, there is no comparison bewteen the two.
They do not claim to be the same type of product, one is a well known polish that has many applications..
The other is a deoxidizer that only works on oxidation.
Depending on what your headlights need would be the 1st consideration.
Are you trying to wear off layers of plastic ?
Are you trying to specifically remove oxidation?

I talked to one guy that bought meguiar's headlight restoration. He said that it worked for 6 or 8 months. He did this application one more time after that. He ended up getting new headlights instead. He drove a chrysler 300m.

I did a headlight restoration on tundra while back. I used toothpaste and a toothbrush. I saw this on My classic car a while back. It didn't work on my headlights. I ended up replacing my headlights with aftermarket lights from Depo. They work just fine at a cost of $125 each.

Toothpaste does not work well for plastic headlights, I've tried it.
Plastic is too soft.
The toothpaste clouds up the surface of the headlight lens with scratches that are worse than the oxidation because there is no quick fix to removing scratches or pits in acrylic headlight lens.
Glass is another story. Toothpaste works quite weil on glass surfaces.
On a side note Toothpaste works great on glass top electric ranges.

Somewhat like Novus #2, there is another product called "Plexus". Honda motorcycle shops sell it. For some reason the two local Harley Shops do not. It does a great job. But I usually go over my windshield on my harley and the headlights on my vehicles every three or four months, just to make sure they retain that new look. It cost about $10 a can, but will last for years. Use very little and it gets the job done.
