Arghhh!!!3$#% Got to go back to the body shop now... my rear sonar is malfunctioning! im so pissed these days cause it's just problem after problem, it's like i lived at the body shop and dealership this past week. And to add to that, a peice of my dash cover flew out the window today! (i didn't use the tape to stick it on, so my fault). But definately yeah i'm gonna maybe buy a PC soon with my cousin and just share it. Thanks guys. I made him obssesive about keeping his accord clean haha.
So Brandon, since a peice of my dash cover is missing im thinking of just removing the whole thing and forget about the ugly dash cover. I park outside everday and my truck gets beat on by the hot california sun. How long untill i would expect dash damage? I can't seem to find a dash protector spray that works with my painted dash if you know what i mean. I don't think the 07-08 tundras can take that spray on stuff.

My apologies for butting in, but the dashes can take spray cleaners just fine. I use Einszettes Cockpit Premium. It smells great and leaves a nice matte finish and has UV protectors. I also keep one of those silver reflective window shades up when I park it. But if youre worried, then just use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe it down.
Take it to service writer and tell him the repair is unaceptable and let them scratch their heads, do this 3 times because District rep will get involved once it comes back for the 3rd time and then talk to Dealership PR Rep and ask them do i have to file complaint with corporate or will yall let me take it to a body shop to get it fixed correct! That's when Toyota Rep will get involved but probably will not go that far but sometimes they are hard headed! Good luck and keep on them or they will blow you off!
In this particular scenario...don't expect Toyota(TMS) to do anything. The Body shop did this repair on the "CHEAP". This is what happens when a dealer damages a vehicle and then sends it out to repair Cheaply. Happens all the time.
A decent repair shopwould not have blended and feathered the base and clear coat. Just watch what this finish will look like in 4 years down the road!!
TMS will generally not address damage or mistakes made/done by a Dealership. They might follow up with the dealer but will not intervene or "force" the dealer to do anything. All they can do is try and muster up some "goodwill".
This is par for the course with any Dealer Franchise. TMS can only address defects in materials and workmanship of their product. The Dealer stands alone when they screw up anything.
TMS is not going to address any third party Body shop!
BTW, most Detailers simply don't understand Paint Systems. I can see this merely by the aboves posts I am reading.
Swirl marks is considered damage. Period. Scratches to the Clear coat are just that... scratches. The Clear coat must be "CUT" down a layer to be truly removed! Sometimes a microfine Compound may level off these scratches.(i.e. Wet Sand or Repaint) A non-wax polymer based Hand Glaze can "hide/fill it in" but it remains nonetheless. Dark/Bold colors make swirls more apparent and obtrusive.
A very simple concept. But no one gets it. Come on guys...this is not Rocket science!!!
But, A good Detailer can hide anything I imagine. And then say that it is repaired.

Reason: spel
I bought the Turtle wax polish from wal mart for like 5 bucks, just did my hood. Oh boy oh boy is it tough to buff off... Especially in the dark lol, ended up just QD the rest off and then a coat of wax. Will have to see how it came out tomorrow.
Oh yeah I went back to the body shop and told em about the swirls, the guy was like oh yeah we machine polished it, just wash your car and all of it will be gone. And he said he can wipe it down with a terry cloth real quick. I was like uhm no, thats more swirls if your not going to properly wash it first. Then I just left.. That shows how much they know about polishing and detailing. And them polishing is just swirls galore, i don't get why they polish the repaired area if they're gonna mess it up.
And for the complimentary wash it seems like they just get a dirty sponge and start wiping it down without rinsing the truck first, and imagine how many cars they wash a day using that same method and sponge. Also looks like when they dry it, they just get a dirty rag and wipe it down not even drying it completely.

The author of this thread needs a total repaint of the damaged area. Shoddy paint work is shoddy paint work. The clearcoat was blended into a swirl damaged area ....yu cannot undo that with "finishing materials[/i]!
Preferably repaired by a Different Repair Shop.
Problem solved. There's no way around it.
A Detail simply cannot undo it.
I do very well at both painting and detailing. I understand both. Any Good detailer will know where his limits are when it comes to paint systems.
The first body shop i went to when the dealer blamed me, estimate came out to $1,015 which they said would have to repaint the whole bedside panel (they said do it the right way or don't fix it at all). the dealership body shop blended in and clear coat which cost $370... I can see why now. Okay well if the paint does get bad in 4 years, i'll have them redo it the right way since it's lifetime warranty as long as im the owner.
Oh yeah i have the meg's QID, that helps protect the front dash from sun damage?

I wouldnt have it repainted, i'd have it done by a detailer. Those swirls will come out (like i've said before) permanently and easily. You can spend $200 on a good detailer, or $200 on your own PC kit. That should save you $815 or so.
And QID has UV protectants in it.

Oh no i'm not going to have it repainted. Was just saying the good body shop estimated $1,015 and the crappy shop did the dent repair for $370. So was just saying the difference. How if i got it done at the good shop they would of done it right.
And definately the porter cable is on my things to get list
