This is a discussion thread titled "Spots on Black Truck", within the Detailing forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just got back from two weeks at Ocracoke and after washing my truck, both the hood and the bed cover look like they have the measles! I have rubbed my a$$ off and it got a little better but they are still there. I think it might be minerals from the well water where we stayed. I have tried tar/bug remover, Windex, Nu-finish but the spots just laugh. They look like they have become one with the clear coat. Any thoughts on what would get them off? I thought about old fashion wax since that is also a cleaner. HELP!
For some reason the spots do seem a lot easier to get off the bed cover.
With the truck in the shade, try claying the areas first and see if that removes them, that usually does the trick for lightly spotted areas. If not you can mix a solution of 50/50 vinegar and distilled water in a spray bottle and lightly rub the areas with a clean microfiber cloth dampened with the mix. For stubborn areas lay the damp cloth on the area and let it sit for a few minutes.

Let me know if the vinegar mixture works because I also have water spots on my salsa red truck. I have never used a clay bar so I am hesitant to start on my new truck. The water here is very, very hard and everyone has a water softner in their homes. Good luck getting the water spots off !
