DetailingGeneral discussion forum for detailing your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Follow up detail.", within the Detailing forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Question about detailing. I went through the big detail process outlined in a previous post, with claybar, etc....
Its been about 2 weeks and was in need of a wash again for dust and a few road bugs etc... If I use the DG 901 Car wash concentrate, does that strip the polish and wax previously applied?
Basically wondering if I wash with DG 901 CWC and then follow up with a coat of DG105 and maybe a wipe down with the Aquawax is this a satisfactory type of detail method for in between the bigger details? I'm pretty new at all this detailing stuff so trying to get the hand of it .

Youre in good shape. The DG car wash wont strip your sealants.
Your plan sounds good for the follow up wash. If youve just applied the 105 a couple weeks ago, you could probably get by with just a coat of Aqua Wax for now. Brandon will put you on the right track, he's the DG king.
Yep, 901 is safe. I usually wash w/ 901, then follow with a QD to remove any spotting that may have occured, and then a final wipe down with AquaWax. Remember AW is not meant to be used as a QD, its a synthetic booster/maintnance wax. I don't apply another coat of 105 after every wash, maybe every 5-6 washes, the AW is all you need in between applications. I've also read somewere that some synthetics need time to cure (I think autogeek) so I never put AW right over a fresh coat of 105. The 105 will last months w/ just 1 coat and maintained w/ AW, especially if you use the 601 prior to the 105. But I like to strip it off and start fresh after about 5-6 coats of AW, which is about every 8 weeks for me and do a "half-detail" as I call it.

Thanks Jumbo and Brandon for responses.
Supersoz when I did the major detail I used the DG652 prior to the 105. Also, I did a wipe down of the AW right after I finished going over the truck with the 105.
So, do you mean that was wasted effort with the AW or did that cause the 105 to not be cured correctly? Thanks for responses.

I found were I read that Duragloss Aquawax (AW) #951. Quote "Though Duragloss Aquawax is designed for a post-wash touch-up, it makes an incredible topper over any of Duragloss’ polishes: Polish and Cleaner #101, Clear Coat Polish #111, and Total Performance Polish #105. These are all essentially paint sealants. After they’ve had adequate time to cure, spray on Aquawax and buff to a dramatic gloss."
I remember reading this and thats why I don't use AW right after I apply 105, the last line, I guess, just kinda got stuck in my head. I never heard of specific cure time for 105 or if it even needs one, but I figure the guys at autogeek know more about these products than I do, so I usually go by what they say. I love AW, I buy it by the gallon. I have used it the same day I've applied the 105, but I use the AW for a final wipe down after everything else has been cleaned, so theres usually a couple of hours between the 105 and the AW. I hit everything on the truck thats not plastic, rubber or vinyl.

Ehh, I still say there isnt any problem in it. I very rarely ever wipe wax off and leave it. I always have to spray something on it, and I never had a problem.

Your probably right, like I said, its just something I remembered reading. I've just never wiped of the #105 and immediately applied the AW, I've always waited a little while in between. Usually after I wipe off the #105, I'll clean the interior, all the glass, dress the tires, wells and trim, seal the wheels, etc, then once I'm basiclly done with the detail, I'll hit it with the AW.

I emailed Duragloss and asked about the cure time for their paint sealants and how long to wait before applying the Aquawax.
This is the response:
We recommend 12 hours cure time for part# 105 before applying #951.
In cooler weather wait 24 hours.
Thank you and God Bless,
Jerry, Technical Support

I am a pure novice at work here when it comes to detailing a vehicle. I was the average joe, just doing a regular run through the automated carwash maybe once a month or when it was really dirty looking. But once I got my tundra I figured I would take a little better care of my vehicle.
