DetailingGeneral discussion forum for detailing your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Time", within the Detailing forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
My last three cars and trucks were all leased so I never really cared too much about them, until now. I just bought a new 06 DC tundra 2 months ago it was the last one left in the Los Angeles county area. I didn't want to get the new tundra because I thought it was too big for me and the 5.7 V8 "might" eat more gas.
Now since this is MY car and I am really excited about being a car owner again!!!! I wash it my self and start to re-learn about car detailing. After reading Brandon's post about car detailing and reading other responds and what they do. Where do you guy find time to do all this work. I work 6 days a week and is hard to find time to work on the car . I bought all these car detailing product for about two weeks and all I did so far is car wash and a good CLAY job. That alot took me 3-4 hours. The 6 step process sounds like a all day JOB.

The initial first job is always the worst one. Once you get it under control and stay on top of it the rest go by very quickly. Apply a quality synthetic and you should'nt have to worry about waxing again for a few months, just normal weekly washings.
Eh, it doesn't improve 0-60 time, so I don't worry about it.
I dunno. I like when people oooh and aaah over my truck. I like keeping it clean. I give it a good detailing about twice a year, and go over it with Instant Detailer (a 15 minute job) about once a week. That seems to do the trick.
All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-a$$ed set of tires on his truck.

I like the ooooh and awwww too, trying to find more time. The clay process, how many time a year do we have to do that. My friend is using the Meg "cleaner WAX" which is the one step polish and wax product. Anyone used it and how did it work. Is just so hard for me to find time. I tried to do this at night and I hear it doesn't work well in cooler temps, is that right?
i usually have been just using the meguires car wash soap, and then putting a coat of the meguires wax on afterwards, and i wax in the spring time, and then right before winter. Mine looks like this from just the simpleness i do compared to what some people do on here:

Just like Jumbo said, the first one is the worst. As soon as that one is over with, the normal routine should only take you 1-2hrs (if that). The first one should only take about 4-6hrs at the most.....

Yeah, once that full detail is out of the way its a lot easier to maintain.

Boys today I had a day off so I decided to go for it. I gave her a really good wash, wash the bed (i have linex) and i hand applied Meg cleaner wax, AA all the outside stuff, check and fill my tires. Still I have NOT VAC inside or clean the inside and it took 5 hours. I love my time spent and damn this is not going to work cuz if i would of done the 6 step proces it would really take all day. Did I do something wrong, why is it taking so long. However my baby look great!!!! but i need to cut the time down. 5 hour i could of went motorbike riding at the track instead.
The more you do it, the faster you'll get. Post some pics.
