Default Re: Stained wheels

It will take some elbow grease by hand, but it should be effective.

Oh, and try another tire/wheel cleaner. Bleach White is great on tires, but they stain the hell out of wheels. Try some simple green for a tire/wheel cleaner. It's cheap, local, and safe.

That was my first assumption when he said he had stains and used WBW.... that stuff is nasty.

Knuckle, along with Simple Green, try Eagle One All Wheel/Tire cleaner, or whatever generic house brand that Auto Zone or Discount Auto Parts has. I usually buy their house brand, its nearly the same formula as Eagle One. Steer away from WBW, it's very harsh.

Thanks a lot for the advice guys. I did try polishing my wheels by hand but quickly realized that I would be there all day. I'll have to pick up the Powerball once I have some extra money.

Update: I finally got a powerball today and tried it out on one of my wheels and it did great. I still need to get the Powerball Mini though cause I still have stains in the small crevices. I've got some pictures of the worst wheel, the front left. Anyone got an idea on how to get rid of the rust on the chrome hub in the center? And is all the rust around my brakes a problem?

Before:

An overall dull, grimey look.

After:

The wheel actually has a shine to it now.

A blurry close up, I need a mini now to get those corners.

If you take your wheel off that cap should just slide right off and can be easily and fairly cheaply replaced at most auto parts stores or salvage yards. I could be wrong, but it looks like one of the ones that is just a center cap with a flange that is behind the wheel.

If you don't want to buy a new center cap, some really fine steel wool and WD-40 might remove the rust, but it will leave the end of the cap looking kind of dull. If you do that you'll need to wax that end after removing the rust or it will just come right back--still only a temorary fix though...
