A big thank you to the contributers in the detail section of this forum. My 09 Tundra is only a couple months old and being completely new to this level of car care I greatly valued the information here.
This morning I washed, clay bared and waxed my black double cab. I ended up with some hard water spots even after claying so I ran inside a did a quick search and found what needed. The 50/50 vinegar and water mix worked like a charm. I then did a quick rub down with some quick detailer spray and waxed with NXT. The truck really looks great. Again, thank you.
A couple questions:
1) Will a complete newb to detailing have problems with a PC 7424? I already have swirl marks (came from the dealer that way, I don't believe they quite know how to wash vehicles) and would like to try and get them out this fall. Being completely new to this and working on black is there big potential for disaster?
2) What is the best way to safely get rid of bird crap? Will keeping a bottle of quick detailer and a microfiber towel in the truck do it without scratching?
These two guys, Jumbo and Brandon are costing me a fortune and I haven't even bought my PC yet . They've addicted me to having all of our vehicles clean all the time and Jumbo's pics of his truck pushed me way over the top because I want to get my silver to look close to the way his silver does. This is possibly the first hobby I've picked up that my wife really likes because her truck has never been cleaner or more shiny. Thank You, gentlemen.
Excuse me, I think UPS is bringing me another box of supplies
Coach4094--I'm looking into buying one of the PC7424's myself. I made the mistake of buying one of the high speed buffers a few years back and swirled the hell out of my then black Chevy. I have used the "higher-speed" orbital buffers like the PC in the past and they work beautifully!! Like Brandon1 said, you really can't hurt the vehicle with these things. You'll be amazed at how much quicker and easier the whole job is, especially now that these waxes are out that don't leave the white residue crap all over the vehicle. Good luck waxing!!
Good to hear about the 7424. I will be looking into buying one soon. My wife already thinks I am crazy, can't wait for the reaction when I bring the PC home.
As far as pics, it'll have to wait. The wife took the truck today so I could wash and wax her van. I guess she liked how the truck looked.
The PC will soon be your best friend. I use it for everything, the only thing I apply by hand is a carnuba. Its definitely gonna change your detailing life.
I tried Brandon1's suggestion about the no-touch foam in the wheelwells--WOW--never would have thought that would be that dramatic a difference. I always clean the wells, but actually having them shiny black made a huge difference. Of course, then it poured rain today as I made a 60 mile round trip so nothing is really shiny now, but it definitely made a difference. My wife is ordering the PC for me for Father's Day, so I can hardly wait to get me hands on that!!
Its funny how the wells make the difference. It's one of the best things you can do to make your car look professionally detailed.
I missed what you should apply in the wheel wells; what is the no touch foam? I want shinny wheel wells!!! Currently, I just us simple green and a scrub brush.
You can put pretty much anything in the wells that is a type of dressing. I like the no-touch products simply because they are cheap and last a decent amount of time. Gloss retention, durability, anti-static and other such qualities that are desired in a good tire shine, dont matter so much in a well dressing.
