Default Method for removing hard water spots

Just thought I'd post about a new method (at least to me) that I was told about for removing hard water spots off of glass. I purchased my 2007 Tundra from a local dealer a few weeks ago and the truck had very bad water spots on all the glass. The dealer did a half a.. job of removing them. I don't know what he used but I guess he didn't want to spend the real time required to remove them. Although he was able to remove them from the windshield. I did and internet search for all kinds of products. Today, I stopped at a local glass shop and was given a sample (about a tablespoon) of cerium oxide. This powder is a glass polishing compound that you mix with water to form a paste. WOW! what a difference. I spent about an hour on the back windows and with a lot of elbow grease I removed 99% of the spots. I never thought of a glass polishing method but it sure works. Has anyone else had a similar problem with their glass? Just thought I'd pass it along.

Yeah, thats usually whats in a glass polish. It works much faster with a buffer.

Honestly, the best ive found is an acid I use from a local detail supply shop. It takes about 1-2 min to do each window, saves me TONS of time....

Have you tried Vinegar? It works for me everytime. Some vinegar on a microfiber and then buff dry with another microfiber towel and you should be good to go.

What would be the best way to remove hard water spots off of a painted surface? A paint cleaner with a buffer?

I'd use vinegar and then polish and wax the paint afterward.

You can use stronger acid, but you also could screw up the paint.

One thing you can do is to get some clay and spray the water spots with vinegar as a lubricant and then remove them with clay. Wash it down and then polish and wax.

Just be gentle.

Better a little extra elbow grease and time than to use something harsh and be sorry. It's so much easier on glass.
