Question Body Side Molding

Okay, I asked the emblem question. What about body side molding removal. I used to have a black T100 and I pulled one side off myself without paint damage. Of course, it was 100 degrees outside and it came off without any problem. Should I try and pull the body side chrome filled molding off myself, or leave it to a pro?

On the 00-02 the molding on the bed is just taped on. On the 03 it doesn't have it.

On ALL Tundras, the moldings on the doors have square holes just in the doors and would need to be filled and re-painted.

So unless you want to re-paint you truck, leave them on the doors.

You could do this mod:

BTW, I think that this mod would do wonders for Peid's truck!

I couldn't agree more, that would look sweet on my truck, BUT I still would have the bumper tops and bed caps that color, so..........I will just leave well enough alone.

I also agree they s-ck. Every time I wash the truck it takes forever for them to stop dripping.

does anyone know how much it would cost to remove the side molding and get the holes filled and painted? they wouldnt have to paint the whole door, but just blend it. this is what i hear.

Good Question BLK00TRD. I bet if you remove them yourself, it might cut the cost. I'm definitely going to get rid of the stupid things.

im thinking of just removing it myself and leaving a couple small holes. I dont think that they will be that noticeable. Then when i get some money, i can have a body shop fill them and blend it.

No, leave em til you've got the cash. You don't water or road salt or debris messing up such a beautiful truck.

I think Lon told me it costed him $400-$500 for each side, pretty pricey. I think im just gonna do the TM2SU mod.

Thats rediculous. I'd love for the moldings to be off, but there's much better uses for that money. With that kinda cash you could get a brand new header kit from S & S.

But, what's the TM2SU mod?

TM2SU used 1½" molding and ND1169 used 1 3/8". If you get ½" it will not be wide enough to cover the holes which I think are 1". Good luck, I'll be doing this mod soon, too!

I thought it would be too serious to take off the the molding and cover up the holes with the molding, so I was trying to find a way to just cover up the chrome strip. The strip is 5/8" but the 1st problem i had was finding an all black one, and the second was painted it to match the black truck. It is black matte.

If i were to take it off, what you are looking for is a 1", 20ft roll, w/ 2 thin adhesive strips on the back. I need to think some more before i decide what to do.
