Default Ever hear of Toyota not using clearcoat on their white vehicles?

I bought my wife an 06 4Runner, white, and it was dark that evening at the dealership. The paint looked a little hazy, but I figured I could get a great shine back. That weekend, I spent all day with a PC using compounds, polishes, and sealants to get it back to showroom shine.

About a month later, paint looks like sh-t again. Did the same thing. My buddy was at the dealership talking to someone there and they have the same problem. He heard that Toyota doesn't put a clearcoat on their white vehicles. He said the only thing to do is to keep waxing it each month...Anyone heard of this?

In the 'old days', it was fairly common for non-metallic colors to be w/o clear-coat. It would not necessarily surprise me if some whites were still w/o.

I think you should take it somewhere to have the paint checked w/the tool that can tell if it has been repainted. My 05 taco has a clear coat and a friend just got an 08 4runner in white & it looked really shiny; even the back hatch door that had been repainted due to a dent. He was using Collinate 845 on it. It looked much shinier than my taco.
Is it possible you have the pearl white? (not sure if they offered that on the 4runner).

No way. That can't be right. I feel violated if that is true.

More that likely the paint is a Single Stage paint..in other words, sprays on glossy, and stays glossy, but has no clear. This is fine and all but doesn't, usually, last as long as clear coated finishes.

White on earlier Toyotas and still some Hondas are supposedly Imron paint. The paint is very very strong and durable, but it oxidizes very easy.

Just get the dead paint off with a good hand polish or the PC, then keep some wax on it to prevent it from happening again.
