Question Auto Armor

I got the auto armor on my 2003 Tundra and was told I would not have to wax it for 6 years Is this correct or should I go ahead and wax it on a regular basis like I normally do my wifes van. I am also going to debadge the truck and was wondering if I can or should go back to Toyota to have them armor the area under the badges or if the wax they gave me with the protection package is the same as what they put on. I hope this makes sense.

I know nothing about that product, but my guess is that 6 years is the projected date that they will most likely no longer be in business, so they don't have to deal with all the false claims they might have made.

Things that sound too good to be true usually are not.

This is a product I bought through the Toyota dealer. It was part of the total vehicle protection program. It included the rust protection, the scotch guard, and the Auto Armor. On that note, has any one else gotten the rust protection. I look down the side of the bed through the anchor holes along the top edge and I can see a black spray material toward the front of the bed. When I look down the back ones there is no spray just the pretty silver color. The dealership said they do not spray in there for rust protection that they only protect the cab. Is this then feeding me some BS?

Another aspect of the rust protection is sound deadening. That might be why they concentrate on the cab. Who cares how loud it is in the bed?

Did they do the tailgate also? Seems like they should.

All this stuff is called "Pack." It does little if any good, and has a HUGE profit margin for the dealership.

Default Simoniz system5?

Just got my Tundra. The dealership offered me this Simoniz protection. They put teflon something on the outside, and teflon protection for the interior. $349. The pamphlet he gave me from Simoniz says that they will repair or repaint if there are any acid rain, bird droppings or tree sap markings that won't come off. Also repair or replace seat coverings if stained and they cannot clean
them.

Has anyone gotten this? Is it worth it?

TIA,

grant

A Teflon sealant glaze costs $70/gallon and covers several cars
http://www.detailsupplyoutlet.com/item.htm?item_num=26

A fabric protectant is $25/gallon
http://www.detailsupplyoutlet.com/item.htm?item_num=66

Save your money. This stuff may be OK, but not worth the price...but it probably has a hefty commission for the sales dude.

That may be, but if I bought this stuff myself, how do I get it on the car? Are there places where I could take these two bottles, and have them apply it?

"Recommended Application: Hand/ Orbital Buffer/High Speed Buffer"

Do like most of us...go to your favorite local store and buy your choice of Meguiar, or Mother's Californa Gold, or Eagle One, or other top quality polishes and waxes. Meguiar's new NXT look interesting. I think Eagle One has a similar product.

How-to tips (you don't need to buy their stuff, but they have good tips):

Default Dealer applied paint protection questions

I bought my Tundra in January. Against my better judgement, I went ahead with the dealer applied paint protection, fabric protection and undercoating. (Really I just wanted the undercoating, but they gave me a "killer" deal on the complete package.) I have gotten burned on paint protection in the past on my Chevy S-10 ZR-2 and I should know better...

Anyway, they claim that it is some type of teflon polymer that bonds to the paint and is supposedly guaranteed to stick for 1,000,000,000 years and is impervious to all compounds known to man. I was told that not only do I not have to wax, but I should not wax it for at least a year or it will cause a haze to form.

Of course I could not skip this wonder protection for my new baby. Did anyone else get this? Did I get burned? Be honest and blunt please, I don't like beating around the bush. When should I wax it? What about a haze forming on the paint?

Default burned!

Ask the dealer for the MSDS and or supplier information. I've never seen or heard of a product lasting like that in all my cleaning and detailing exploits. What warranty/guarantee did you get with it? What do you need to do? wash with only x-type cleaner? have to go back to dealer every six months for a "spot check and reapplication" Best I found was Zaino (read threads here or www.gurureports.org wax test). I would go with either Zaino, Klasse all-in-one, or possibly the new Manzerna FMJ or Meguiers NXT. Ask Sessiondrummer (aka Richard Griot) about the Griots products. I like the durability of the synthetic/acrylic since I don't get to clean the cars as much as I like to anymore between work and kids. Wash, clay, wax NOW. 303 all interior and tires.

I'll have to dig out my paperwork and see exactly what it was. They claim that it was approved by Toyota for use on their vehicles. I was assuming that it was hype when I bought it so if I got burned it is my fault. I didn't want to take the chance of passing up a good chance for some extra protection. The fact that no one else has heard of it so far means that it probably isn't used nationwide. If it isn't used nationwide then I probably got burned.
