Default Vector Polisher....anyone use one?

I was at my local Pep Boys (auto parts store) and they had a Vector polisher on sale for $49.99. Just wondering how it stacks up to a Porter Cable 7424.

This is in regards to the guy who just wants to use it occasionally as opposed to the professional detailer who does this for a living.

Here is a link to the one at Pep Boys.

Vector 7" Professional Sander/Polisher

Also, it looks like they have another model that is getting good reviews and just a little more expensive than the above.

this is what is called a "straight" drive buffer. The head does not ossilate (sp?) and therefore will cause majior paint damage in the hands of an inexperienced buff-man. The "jiggling" action of the 7424 is what makes the buffer so safe, the vector is not safe. It will cause swirls, holograms, and will burn through the clear coat unless you are carefull. I have been using a straight drive buffer for 2yrs now and I always have to follow with the Porter Cable to get rid of micromarring and holograms.

Thanks for the info Brandon1. Looks like I'll be springing for the 7424 sometime soon.

Congrats on taking enough initiative on at least knowing about the PC. It is a fantastic machine allowing users to remove swirls, water spots, and scratches. Makes a big difference in the look of the truck.

What polishes are you planning on using? I recomend Optimum Polish from We Are Car Care ! Car Wax - Car Polish - Auto Detailing Supplies & Car Accessories. It is a very user friendly polish. Follow that with some Poorboys EX and Natty's Blue, and you will have an outstanding looking paint job. But if you really want to get pricey, Zaino Z-5pro is the best looking and most durable sealant I have used.

Thanks for taking the time to recommend some products to try.

I mainly want the PC 7424 to try and get rid of some custom "pinstripes" that I got last time I went wheeling up in the Sierras. Most look to be just in the clear coat so I'm hoping to get them out.

Aside from what you recommend above for normal exterior upkeep, is there something you'd recommend to try and get these surface scratches out? I already tried Meguire's Scratch X by hand but it wasn't cutting it.

Thanks for your help!!
