Liquid Glass isnt terrible, but if you just layer a wax over a poorly prepped paint surface, it wont come out as well as if you clean/polish the paint. I'd rather put some $0.50 wax over a properly prepped paint surface anyday than a $50000 wax over dirty paint.

This is going to sound like a scary question....

But I have a black and decker sander....if I got the backing plate and parts for the buffer of the P/C, would it work just as well? I kinda hate to drop $200 for a buffer...I can think of a few other things I would prefer to purchase with my money.

No, it just wont work, been there done that lol. Just get the real thing.

Just a FYI RocketChild, I have a Porter Cable for sale in the classifieds for $75, and I can set you up with almost any compound, polish, sealant, wax you need. I'll cut you a deal, I need most of the stuff out of my shop. All you will have to buy is a pad kit, and if you'd like I can even get you some to ship to you.

Everything finally aligned, Products, weather and some free time. First detailing with the PC7424 and my new CCS Pads.

Products Used:
Mothers Claybar
Optimum Compound - for just a few scratches
Menzerna PO106FF - a.k.a. Nano Polish
Duragloss #105 Sealant
DP MAXX WAX - goes on like melted butter and wipes off really easy
Duragloss Aquawax - Touch ups and all windows
303 Aerospace protectant on all the rubber, plastic vinyl.

Brandon thanks for the tips on the MAXX Wax! That combined with the Menzerna really made the metallic pearl pop out of the paint.

Wow, there is no denying that shine. The flake is killer on that one.

You should make a new thread showing your work, that way everyone can see it's *wetness*

do you think that using a buffer will give noticably better results then by hand?

Definatly. But it has to be a PC or Flex, it cant be one of those cheap-o wally world buffers. Those things damage more than they do good.

Default Re: How to correctly detail your auto

Ok, just ran through the process again this last weekend. truck looks wonderfully wet and slick once again!

i've been out of the loop here for a while, but was killing some time at work today and noticed some people adding a step to the process.

in the original, the duragloss #105 appeared to me to be the last step, and that's where i ended it (aside from wheels, etc. i'm talking paint here). a few others have stated they added another wax after the sealant, such as the DP MAXX wax.

is this now the recommended method, and i just missed it? or is it something for a little bit extra? honestly, i'm not sure what else it could do- i last did brandon's whole process a year ago, and it was still holding up really well. i do aquawax after every wash though, so i'm sure that helps.

thanks for any tips! i'm about to order a guzzler after reading about it here- i've been meaning to grab another meguiar's water magnet anyway, since mine always seems to be soaked by the time i get to the last quarter panel- so another product on the order won't hurt, if it's needed.

Brandon,
Have a question about the clay you use, you stated you use the clay magic brand.
Is there any difference if I was to use the Mother's brand that can be picked up at a local autozone store? This is mainly due to the fact I would be saving at least $10 for shipping costs if I buy online.
Thanks for the wonderful write-up, basically getting my shopping list together to get ready for some good ol' detailing

PappaPenney,

FWIW, I buy Clay Magic (blue clay) at AutoZone. Hopefully your local store carries it as well....
