Re: This is my Detailing How-To write-up I have been promising.
Brandon1 thanks for the write up, recently I did two coats of astro shield been using it forever, I found a can older then my 22 year old son still works polymer coating don't know whats in it, well I'm on a polish kick now.
I ordered Duragloss #105 polish bonding agent and aquawax hope the stuff is good the whole thing was $30 with shipping better in price than Zaino hope it works as good, the scratch-x works great.

LOL...as in the stuff in the cooking aisle?
*edit* it just occurred to me when i mentioned pinstriping you thought i meant decals...actually i was talking about small scrapes on the clearcoat from branches and stuff. is there a good way to clean those up a bit?

Also go to this site: Autopia - you will be reading for days!!
I endorse 3M and Porter Cable. I use 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound, follow with Perfect It III Machine Glaze, and finish with Show Car Paste wax or sometimes NXT topped with Show Car Paste Wax. Anyone have questions, feel free to PM me. I've been detailing as a hobby for about 4 years.

Wow nice write up.
I thought I was anal in my detailing, I run into the 4 to 5 hour mark doing my truck. Nice to know someone else takes it to another level above my next level detailing.
Re: This is my Detailing How-To write-up I have been promising.
Hey on the duragloss they ask you to use 100% cotton to apply, and to wipe it off, have you used synthetic micro fiber towels like they sell at Target will it make any diff.
Re: This is my Detailing How-To write-up I have been promising.
Microfibre really is the wave of the future and actually has been for the last 5 years maybe. It is really catching on and definitely is far superior to 100% cotton towels.
I love microfibre because it has so much bite to it. It is far better than cotton to remove polish, wax, etc as it just picks up so much more without spreading it around. I can recommend the Turtle Wax ones you can get at Autozone for over the counter and have heard good things about the Vroom brand as mentioned above. If you want higher end, you can shop at autopia as they have a great selection as well.
BTW, the blue and white ones at Walmart are decent, but I personally have relegated them to glass/door jamb/wheel work because I find they do lint a bit more than I'd like - but at $5 for 5, its a great deal.
Re: This is my Detailing How-To write-up I have been promising.
yeah, the cheaper ones do have lint problems. Cobra MF's found at exceldetail.com are the best I have used. vroom comes in as the best for price leader.

Re: This is my Detailing How-To write-up I have been promising.
GREAT writeup! I was so inspired I did my wifes Pilot exactly as you described. (major points scored) Personally, the touch and feel brings a smile (I am compelled to touch and stroke my car??!!)
Then my '02.
A week later I purchased a new '06 and did the claying and finishing - it made a big difference. I was surprised how much crud was on a brand new vehicle.
Arm...... tired...... but will make a difference over the winter months.
Re: This is my Detailing How-To write-up I have been promising.
Well I fallowed you're steps.
1. Clay magic clay bar
2. Maguires #7 pro glaze with a rotary and scratch-x couldn't find clear coat red moose.
3. Duragloss pba 601
4. Duragloss #105
the duragloss is amazing, last week I did 2 coats of Astro shield, man I dint know how hard that was to remove till I used Duragloss, the dg 105 is three times slicker than two coats of astro shield on its own, I have dg aqua wax for when im done with two or three coats of dg 105, so easy to use I wont use anything else. thanks again Brandon1.
Re: This is my Detailing How-To write-up I have been promising.
No problem. How did the #7 work with the rotary? I have always had trouble with #7. I have found #80 to work much better, but it dosent have as good of a look as #7.
