Default a/c fan not working

not sure if this goes in electrical or not but like the title says, the little fan that blows in the wonderful air conditioning finally pooped out. it figures that in the first week of july in the hot state of florida, the a/c fan quits on me. everything else seems fine. all the lights work. all the other switches seem fine. even the a/c is on and the vents on the dash get condensation on em and feel cold to the touch. i just can't get the little fan to turn on. hopefully this is a simple fuse or relay that i can replace. any help would be much appreciated. i'll call the dealer in the morning but it's the weekend so i don't know how much luck i'll have there. thanks in advance.

I assume you tried the blower at all speeds and none worked. If so, the problem is not the blower resistor. If it works on high only, it is a bad blower resistor. Check the 10 amp "gauge" fuse and the 50 amp HTR fusable link. Check pin 5 of the HTR relay for 12 volts(with the relay removed). If there is 12 volts there, the fusable link is good. If the 10 amp gauge fuse is good, remove the HTR relay and jumper from pin 5 to pin 3 of the socket with the blower switch on. If the fan runs, the relay is bad.

ok, the 10 amp guage fuse is fine. i assume the 50 HTR relay is fine. now when you talk about checking pin 5 and then running a jumper from pin 5 to pin 3 is where you lost me. when i remove the 50 amp HTR fuse/relay, there's only two posts available. am i removing the wrong thing? and no, the fan doesn't work on any of the settings. i don't think it's a bad fan switch because when the a/c is on and the fan is in the off position, the engine idles fine but when i turn the fan on (even though it doesn't blow) the engine idles changes to indicate a load on it for the a/c.

The HTR relay will have 4 or 5 posts that plug in to a socket. It is a seperate item than the fuse. Remove the relay and see if there is 12 volts at pin 5 of the socket, The 50 amp fuse is good if there is 12 volts at that pin. If there is 12 volts, leave the relay out and jumper pin 5 to pin 3 of the socket (with the blower switch turned on). If the relay was the problem, that will make the fan run. If the fan does not run, something else is the cause. I hope that helps. Good luck.

Next time just give the fan motor a good thump with your foot or hand.
If it starts working then its the motor. Its a very common problem in Toyotas.
If it doesnt work then trace down the circuit as described earlier.
HKISER gave you excellent advise

I am having the same problem. i have checked all the fuses and they are fine, i have the relay out and i have 12 volts at 2 points but there are no numbers to tell me which is pin 3 or pin 5. Nothing on the relay itself either, do you have a picture or the pin assignments for the 50 amp heater relay? or know where i can find them.

Thanks

Default Same problem

My A/C - Heater fan only works in high speed on my 2000 Tundra. A/C compressor comes on at all speed settings, but the fan only runs on high speed.

From various posts, it must be the relay or resistor.

I've not be able to remove the heater relay. I cannot figure out how to release the retainer clips on the base of the relay.... cannot reach them. Is there a special puller? I've loosed the relay/fuse tray and can get to one side but not the other side which is against the 120 amp fuse holder.

Also, where this resistor is located?
