Default What is the BEST remote starter?

Alright, I just read a thread about a bulldog remote starter, and the idea seems soooooooooooo awesome. Anyways, i saw the bulldog pic and it came with a key with like 4 buttons. If i got a remote starter, could I hook it up so its my keyless entry too, so i dont have 2 keyless systems? Also, the main question, what is the BEST brand of remote starters, cause if i get one, i want a truly dependable one...anyone know?

Well, from what I've heard, Compustar's remote start works really well... I'm questioning the quality of the Bulldog. It looks like some cheap Walmart product (thats where you buy it). BUT, I'd look into Compustar and DEI (Viper, etc.) stuff. I think I may get a full Compustar system (2 way remote start/security/keyless entry).

DEI is really good stuff. They make Stinger and maybe Viper? not sure but stinger for sure. Audiovox has some new stuff out that my buddies shop has been installing that is really nice. Has a keychain that tells you what part of your car is going off.

I've had the Clifford Remote Starter for over a year now and its worked well. If you get the Clifford Alarm you can hook up the remote start to any button(s) you want. Meaning you can start your truck by pressing a single button or by pressing a combination of buttons. Besides starting my truck, I can also turn on my headlights and radio from the remote.

I used to be an installer. MY favorite system, and the one that I use is the Compustar 2WSSR. It is two way, and has (in prime conditions) 1.25 mile transmitter range. I recommend you get it. It is pricey though. So shop around.

The only place that sells that alarm here in town has it for $699 installed...the lady said she could give it to me for $650 though. Is this reasonable or should i haggle a bit more? Them being the only dealer in town, might make it harder to make a good deal.

I've decided to save and go for the Compustar over anything by DEI. The range difference is so great for basically the same features. My friend has one and loves it.

Hover: That is actually a good price. My shop charges over $700 for it. You made sure to specify the 2WSSR, though, right? There are FM models that don't have as much range on them.
What I like about the compustar systems is that they do not have a lot of useless features, and they are a great system to build on. If you add accessories later on there is plenty of room for control over them through the Compustar remote. A lot of Alarm or starter systems are limted to 2, 4, 5 channels.

Default alarms

I use a codealarm and have used their products for years. The range isn't the greatest but my friend sells them and installs them for free so for around 200.00 I can't complain. It also turns on your headlights independently. You can hook up the factory alarm so that it arms and disarms with the aftermarket alarm but you have to know how to do it. For the ultimate my friend sells a satellite unit which allows you to track your car from the internet. You can also start your car anywhere even across the US because it is all satellite accessed. Good way to keep track of were your children and spouse are at any time. It is a subscription service so you can also have the company unlock your doors if you left the key in it. You can also shut down your vehicle if it is being driven without your consent. Pretty cool stuff but I am too cheap for the monthly fees.

Yup, I made sure it was the Spread Spectrum version. If I didn't just buy myself a new cellphone, I might have gotten that alarm this month.
The lady that I talked to said that she heard that there were alot of problems with the viper 2-way system interfering with other devices. Anybody know if there is any truth in that or was she just saying that to woo me away from viper?

I'm not sure about the Viper 2-way. I like DEi(makes Viper), they do have some good systems. But the Compustar gets my vote because it is tried and tested. there are only a couple of different styles of the CompuStar, Firstech(makes Compustar) concentrates on making them excellent. By the way Compustar is made in Alaska. I used to live in Alaska, it's a tough place, so the product is durable.
