For about $5. and an afternoon of drilling, cutting and wiring, I installed these side turn signals on my 2001 Tundra. A little extra visibility (like the Land Rovers and Euro-SUVs have) - for very little effort - and cost!
...and don't pay attention to the dirt on the truck - that was FREE!
Whoa Doodz, KILLER MODS! I've got the itch now. I was thinking of over cab lights too. Would that be too red necky?!?

I wouldn't do it. I think the Tundra is too small for top lights. Maybe some low profile ones would look ok. It is your truck though. If you like it, do it! It will at least stand out and be different if you do.

Did that on an old VW that I had years ago. Although it is a cool mod and takes time...I just don't feel that it fits the truck. That is really a European fad and has kinda lost its luster now since all of the lowered Acura/Hondas have them.
I also agree w/ PXLpainter...this mod is bold and really requires some planning and is not for the weak hearted.
Hey PXLpainter...I am glad to see that you are using them how they were intended for in Europe as turn signals. Most of the kids these days use them for side marker lights and wire them to stay on all the time.
I've had a few responses from members here that this is a lame, overused mod - that only the low-riders have done this long ago, etc...
Funny - but I went to Vegas this weekend and had 3 different Tundra owners (and one F150) come up to me and ask if it was after-market or a dealer option.
Different streaks for different freaks... and stuff.
Whatever.
I like the look of the newer VW-style side markers. They have a clear lens and a chrome reflector, a nice look IMO. Maybe I'll call a VW dealer and see what they want for them. Once I quit laughing, I'll then call a junkyard...
The only problem I can think of is that the VW side markers look like they're recessed into the fender - not sure if they would look right on a flat piece of sheet metal.
If I do decide to do this, I'll be sure to take pictures along the way, and post it on TS.

Yes - the VW (Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, etc...) all have recessed sheet metal to accomodate the fixture somewhat.
I just got the little marker lights down at Auto Zone - clear lens, chrome reflector, orange bulb and a black rubber bezel. Can't remember how much (less than $10) but they are still functioning perfectly as the day I installed them months ago!

Jeff, dont let the haters bring you down. I am getting tired of the racial implications that some members make at some of the mods here. And im not even of color! I think that is a cool mod. And european auto manufacturers and tuners have been into marker lights for years. In europe, auto safety is taken seriosly, as are most driving matters. Driving in europe is a passion. Where formula one is one of the most popular sports, those people know their cars.
