Default Fog Light Relay Control

I have a 2008 Tundra and installed factory fog lights utilizing the factory fog light wiring harness which was already installed on my truck. I am not interested in buying the factory fog light switch which is part of the steering column turn signal lever. I just want to install an on/off dash switch to control the fog lights.

I have the fog light schematic wiring diagram from one of the posts from one of the forums. I have installed a fog light light relay in the fuse compartment where the fog light relay is supposed to go. I need to find out where I can intercept the relay coil wires which tie to the fog light relay terminals #1 and #2 which control the relay. Any one have any advice on where these wires run from the factory fog light relay location? I need to disconnect them from the factory wired control to the steering column, and tie them to the new dash mounted switch in order to control the fog light relay.

Hi Eddie,

I caught up to your Idea #1 and Idea #2. Are both of these proven methods? I sure do not want to harm my ECU but they appear to be OK. If I understand them, Idea #1 turns the fog lights on when the parking lights are on and Idea #2 turns them on/off via a manual switch. Is this correct? How can I have them come on when the parking light s come on and also be able to turn them off with a switch when the parking lights are on?

I just PM'd someone who was supposed to try the rewiring. I don't own a 2nd-gen Tundra but I have some electrical knowledge from working for Lexus I don't see any harm done to the body ECU since it's being bypassed, and those ECU connections are definitely grounds since the other end of the relay coil circuit connects to a fuse.

With #1 you can still turn the fogs on/off with the stock switch

Thanks Eddie, it works! I used the diagram #1 and installed a switch on the dash. Now I can turn them on or off with the manual switch and they turn off automatically when the parking lights are turned off.

Thanks again.
