Default Viper 5701 LE Responder

Wasn't what you would say tickled with the Viper 5900 so today I had the 5701 installed at a professional shop. Has a few more features and alot easier on batteries. Price with all sensors (except proximity) was $525. So considerably cheaper than the 5900 with two remotes. Even had my hard Undercover tonneau cover sensored as well. Very pleased at this point.

The wiring directions for our truck (2007) were a little vague on the ignition wires but they got it hooked up fine.

very user friendly and has alot of programming features. The "ghost lights" are pretty cool and good range (2000 ft).

Since you've had both, mind saying what you didn't like and how the 5701 is better? Also, what was the battery life on the 5900? I'd hate to get one and be buying new batteries all the time.
The 5900 is a good system. However, I am one of those people who can not have anything with an LCD screen in my pocket. Always ends up getting scratched up (this one did in less than a week). It's also bulky compared to the 5701 and went through a set of batteries in 10 days. This may have been in part to all the playing I was doing with it. Battery life on the 5701 is three to 6 months. The 5701 will check the temp inside the vehicle for you as well as activate the rear window defroster when it's below 55 degrees if you program it that way. Also there is a "silent mode" that will not sound the truck alarms but will set off the pager on the remote.

If you need the LCD to show you what's going on then by all means get the 5900. The 5701 will do all those things and more by the color and amount of LCD's that light up (easy to memorize). The 5701 also utilizes a new "supercode" instead of code hopping that all of the other Viper systems use.

Go to Viper.com and download the owners manual for each and you will see more of the differences. The 5701 is also cheaper by nearly $175. The two stage sensor is sensitive enough that you don't need a prox sensor.

I noticed the valet switch, antenna, and LED are all on the same device. Kinda odd but apparently it's done for ease of install. Can I ask where they installed yours at? Could you post a picture?
It is all contained in the antennae which is on the windshield behind the rear view mirror. The valet switch is actually a button that you would not know is there unless you owned it. It can be programmed to alarm the system again once the truck is parked. Or if you open the door without your remote (if you happened to lose it) you can also deactivate the alarm by pressing the valet button a set amount of times within 5 seconds.

Then if the ignition key is not used within a programmed amount of time the alarm will go off. The blue led pulses every second just bright enough to flash a soft blue beam on to the driver seat area. Easily seen at night or you can cover the led if you don't want it to be seen. I am impressed with the programming abilities of this system. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow night and post it for you.

I know we don't live in the same place, but where did you get yours installed (Major retail store)? I went to a local car audio / security shop, and the guy quoted me something like $800-$900 for it. I think he listed off 5-7 additional charges.... had to diode each door... parking light flash... factory alarm bypass... immobilizer... he just kept listing charges.

That was for the Clifford model which is basically the same thing. They had the alarm listed for $499, which included basic install.

I'll look for those pictures posted tomorrow.
Good luck on doing your own install. Mine was done at a professional shop where I had my JVC head unit system installed. They are an authorized dealer and it took the tech quite a few hours to do the install. He also used a new bit writer that is needed for the 5701. This allowed the oem alarm to be fully integrated in with the Viper system. You do not need a valet key in a box for the 5701. It recognizes the Tundra ecm on its own. There was also alot of misleading info on Toyotas end about which green wire on the ignition switch as there are 4 of them and they all read ignition. Finally had to remove the steering column to confirm the wire off the tumbler. Plus the ecm wiring was confusing as well. It was the very first 5701 my shop has installed due it being such a new item from Viper.

Having an authorized shop do the install ensures the warranty on the system. Again with tax it was $529.38 exactly and tax here in Maryland is 6%. I have a sensor on the tonneau cover, all doors, hood switch, tilt sensor and glass break sensor. With the dark tint it was advised not to do the prox sensor. $800 seems outrageous and you should check around at another authorized Viper installer.

$250 or so online is right but that is without tilt, glass break, prox or any of the optional sensors. The sensors ballpark around $25 or so each.

Good Luck

The glass brake sensor is #506T, the tilt is #507M. The window control module if you want it is #530T. It will automatically close both your front truck windows when you arm the system.

Hey tox did you buy a programmer, have it programmed or use a local shop? I'm interested in the same unit.
