Default HID's in my tundra fogs video

http://www.eurospeedperformance.com/Videos/hids.mpg

i made a short video of the catz 4300k hids i put into my fogs. headlights are regular factory 55w h4 halogen bulbs. i do a lot of conversions on bmws, corvettes, and hondas, so i threw some in the truck a while back and just made a video now. i also have some in my zx6r.

the video goes from headlights only to headlights + fogs, and then from headlights + fogs back to headlights only. didn't do the fog mod yet at the time.

enjoy.

That's pretty impressive. Are there any laws against HID's or driving with them on/off. I like the extra brightness and normally drive w/my fogs on...there stock for now.

How much would that cost and what is involved?

Thanks,
Mark

yes and no. there is a lot of gray area surrounding vehicle lighting.

generally, cops and inspection places don't care as long as the lights are aimed properly. this is mainly to protect other drivers from being blinded. but as many know, even a regular halogen bulb equipped headlight aimed too high can be blinding.

i drive with the fogs on all the time. sometimes with just the fogs on, as the headlights don't do much anymore. my gf has a set in her accord, and we both have them in our bikes. we never fail inspection, or get pulled. i've even been complimented by cops before for the nice looking fogs.

i decided to do the fogs instead of the headlights because if i ever have a loaded bed or are towing something, i don't want the lights to go up too much (when the back is weighted down) and blind people. also, doing the fogs cost less than the headlights, and is a easier install as far as wiring goes.

i tried to see if anyone wanted to do a GB a while back, but no one was interested. but you are interested in a set, i can get you one for $410 shipped. send me a email or give me a call if you have any questions or want more info. 919.858.8852.

Mark, it depends upon where you live in regards to the laws. As far as I know, HID is legal in every state because it has been approved by the Federal Government on new motor vehicles.

The police really couldn't care less about retrofitting a new system onto another vehicle, as long as its aimed right and not blinding oncoming traffic.

Here in MA. it is an infraction to drive with your fog lights on in the abscence of inclement weather (snow, rain, fog, etc.) but we don't get too tied up in that. I get more concerned with people that drive around in the pitch black with ONLY their fog lights and parking lights on and NO headlights on. What's up with that?

So, the short answer is it depends upon Louisiana law, and whether or not you get along with your local constabulary Other than that I'm sure you'd enjoy HID on your truck!

from my own perspective, ive been considering the indy fog light mod because even before the hid conversion, i got a lot of people flashing their lights at me...with just the headlights. just running the fogs (provided they're incandescent or hid "white") would give me enough light to run around town--the stock fogs are really bright.

now that i need new fog lights (crunch), im planning on getting yellows...this is probably what youre referring to, right? i'd run yellows only, provided it was actually foggy out...a set of yellow fogs down low and a set of yellow fog "driving lights" on the bumper, below the level of the stock headlights...but that's only in fog. with the regular headlights off, it wouldn't be like driving in to casper the unfriendly ghost.

as far as the yellows in good weather go, i think they do it for the same reason they install lights on their windshield squirters...it's an unconscious desire to get pulled over .

LMAO Sean!

I probably should have said "auxiliary lights" rather than fog lights. The color does not matter, at least here in MA. It is impossible to say whether one should, could, or would be pulled over. Most likely I think you would be ok. But there is always that one guy who is a stickler for the rules Best advice is to go to the library, or if you have a friend in the police dept. and look up the law.

As far as the fog lights on but no headlights, I think that the headlights give you much better vision, farther down the road so that you can react faster to hazards. the fog lights disperse their pattern UNDER fog (or snow, rain, etc) rather that reflecting off of the droplets of moisture. I don't think their range is as long as the headlights.

I do think that at twilight, there would be no problem with just the parking lights and fog lights on though. Looks kinda cool.

As for those windshield washer nozzles, I have seen those around. They are a great attention getting device, just not the kind of attention anyone wants

Don't use driving lights in fog or as a way to augment the lowbeams. Driving lights are like high beams, the beams have a very wide spread horizontally and vertically. Fog lights have a sharp beam cutoff.

I've also used HID's in my foglights, they're great auxiliary lowbeams. They "fill" the areas directly in front and to the side where the lowbeams do not cover, yet due to the low mounting area and beam cutoff (right below where the lows begin) they do not blind oncoming drivers.

I had my headlights out at the time so I installed them at the areas below them.
