Question Fog Lamp not working with HID Low Beam

I just installed a HID kit (low beam only) in my 2003 Tundra. Everything went in perfectly. Only one problem; I know that I would lose my High beam, but my factory fog lamp is not working as well. I installed the factory H4 bulb and the fog lamps works. How can I get my fog lamps working without connecting the High beam connector? Any help would be great.

Join as club member and you'll have access to the wire diagrams courtesy of NHParrot. What it sounds like is that the foglight circuit uses the "high beam" as a ground somewhere for a relay. This why the foglights turn off when you turn on high beams on original setup. With out the bulb to complete the circuit, no ground! My dad's Chevy Conversion van had this setup on it, took us a while to track down and mod so they came on with parking and stayed on with low and high beam. Good luck, having access to the garage section via club membership has some great resources!

The foglight circuit is wired through the headlight circuit. Check the obvious first (20a fog fuse). If not that then check to see if there is power at the fog relay and the fog switch (headlights on low and fog switch on). If no power there than it is probably a result of your HID install.

do you have drl's?

Thanks everyone, looks like I have to spend sometime over the weekend to figure this out. I’ll report my findings…

Well, I finally found a solution to get the fog lights to work with the low only HID lights. It appears the fog lights will only turn on if it detects 12 volts (with load) through the High beam lead.

I purchased a $2 12 Volt 5 watts light bulb with a positive and negative wire leads and connected the positive lead to the 12 Volt low beam lead and the negative to the High Beam lead. This only needs to be connected to one headlamp only. This little mod took 10 min and $2 in parts.

Now I have the use of my fog lights!
