I bought a very low end tundra work truck. I wanted a full size truck rather than a loaded mini truck. Ford and GM were giving me the runaround. Im glad I went with the Tundra and its 5yr/60K powertrain warranty, woo hoo! Anyways, I really REALLY like to use cruise control on the highway. This truck didnt have it from the factory. So for $300 I had the dealer install it. I guess they have an independent contractor, since I had to make an appt. The guy installed a "GlobalCruise" stick on the steering column. I have a heck of a time trying to get the cruise to activate sometimes. I have to "squeeze" the button rather than press it. Usually I have to squeeze it several times and finally it kicks in. The speed up/down doesnt work well either. Then I notice it doesnt hold a speed very well. It can vary +-3 mph even on flat ground. Then when I brake or deactivate it, theres a "chunk" noise as the gas pedal pops out. Im very disappointed.
Is this a problem with factory cruise control?
Does anyone else have aftermarket cruise installed?
The factory cruise in my fiancee's Chevy Malibu is flawless! Activate cruise, light comes on. Set the speed, it says "cruise" on the instrument panel. It kicks in on first press of the buttons, maintains speed on level road, etc. It may not be a camry, but is got a V6, full power, and was $6-7K cheaper!

It's an issue with aftermarket cruise controls. The factory cruise does not do this, it doesn't wander much at all, sets easily, etc. My dad had an old '85 pickup, and we got him an aftermarket cruise control, and it did much the same as you write. Didn't hold very well, was finicky about settings, etc.

Crap that agitates the hell out of me. It sucks not having money enough for factory cruise! Damn. Well I know what to do when I have more money to blow! Tundra (or Titan) Quad cab.
But anyways, really the only luxury option I afforded myself with this truck was an Auto trans. I didnt drive the toyota manual trans, but I tried an F150 and it sucked. I just assumed Id want an Auto truck. Though I do like manual economy and sports cars...
