Hey, I liked your Idea soo much I had to go out and buy a kit for myself. I picked it up today, I am taking pics of the box right now. I'll post some tomorrow. I ended up getting the SENKO kit. The cost is a little higher than $350 though. What was the name brand of your kit ? Thanks.

PIAA does make 9006 Super Plasma. They are made in Japan for Japan. PIAA USA guys like me cant get their hands on them. HIPER bulbs are the same as the Nokyas. you can get HIPER for a better price. E-mail me if you want more info.

Yeah,I guess I am,but you were the first one to go HID in a Tundra to my knowledge. I recently sold my bi-xenon system for the same amount I paid for them, even with the high-beam feature not working. But I've ordered a new identical system and should have them in about 2 weeks, photos will be taken once they're installed.

By the way, that's one bad@ss flashlight! How long do the batteries last in that thing? Hmm,if a cigarette lighter adapter was available I might be tempted to buy one

HID in the car is cool, but I also like my HID hand held.

thanks for the insight Ed JadeSR5 Tundra & aika!

I bought some sylvania 9006CB but i think they are really just whiter than the OEM. unfortunately they don't really match the headlamps. oh well. another step in the direction of getting there!

$350 from an ebay auction,if you do a little searching on the 'net you may find a better deal.
Pricey compared to tinted or higher-wattage halogens, but HID burners have output equivalent to a 100+ watt halogen but with the heat output of a 35-watt bulb. Also the type of light produced by HIDs increases visibility of anything reflective like road signs and lane markers.

The foglights alone with HID look like they could be used as low-beams.
The pics on the roadside that you took from
hood level show the true amount of light
distribution.
What are your plans for the headlamp bulbs?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They could probably work well alone as low beams if aimed correctly.I didn't do anything to the aim,the foglight am cuts off right below where the low beam starts,so they don't reach as far as stock lowbeams.

As for the headlights,I've tried two different true HID conversions.
The first system had some glare problems,it wasn't the glare of a high beam but still enough to irritate some oncoming drivers.I was experimenting with additional shielding around the HID burner (bulb) to fix it,almost completed it,then found the other system.
The second system is what's called a bi-xenon system, meaning there's a high beam.Since a burner is a single "filament" and the Tundra/Sequoia bulbs are dual you lose high beams with most HID conversions. The shielding design was different with this system, the glare looked pretty minimal (never got to drive around with them though).I'm not currently using the system because the high beam feature was faulty, they're being sent out for warranty replacement.

Please explain the details of your fog light HID retrofit. I installed Super Plazmas in my headlights and now the factory fog lights appear too yellow in comparison to the headlights. I'm looking to do something to make the use of low lights & fog lights appear closer in color when both on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The halogens you have may not be that good of a match. With tinted bulbs the beam color stays pretty much the same at any angle,HID systems vary. You should be able to find those Super Plazmas that fit the fogs (9006 type)
The retrofit is almost a plug-n-play installation. The burners are the same ones found on factory HID headlights but have custom bases added to allow fitting them into an originally halogen light,so they just twist in like the original 9006 bulbs. You'll need to find a spot to mount the ballasts and lengthen the wiring harness wires that connect to the battery positive terminal...that's if the system comes with such a harness,it varies among brands.

If you ladies and gents have any other HID-related questions, feel free to ask,I'm more than willing to answer them to my best abilities

Actually they're the factory foglights that I did a true HID retrofit to. Because of the increase in light output they're great auxiliary low beams.

No name,it came in a plain white box with a single sheet of directions. It uses Philips ballasts and burners, not very good adapter bases though.
