Since you have not disabled the DRL's, the +12V that gets applied to the low beam filament travels back through the high beam filament to your driving light relay coil to ground, thereby engaging the relay and turning on your driving lights.
One solutions is to disable the DRL's. The other is to tap the actual high beam wire coming from the Combination Switch in the steering column. There are a few places to tap it, and I would recommend a diode in-line with that connection if you were to pursue that option.

Ed,
Hmm interesting explanation.
Maybe you can help me with my dilemma. I hooked up my PIAAs to the high beam hot wire near the bulb connector, and it works fine, the lights go on and off when I change from high to low beam.
On the other hand, when I have my driving lights on (with the switch on high beam) and then turn off the lights when I park, I will get back in the next day and the driving lights will be on. The headlight switch is still off, but my DRLs are on (I still have the stock configuration).
Any ideas or a simple way to correct this problem?
Thanks,
T

The high and low beams share the same 12v positive circuit,so even @ low beams you'll find voltage at the high beam wire. The ground side of both circuits is what's being controlled by the light switch.

I already bought a set of Hella/Optilux 2020 to be used as driving lights or "high-speed auxilary lights" as I called it.
http://www.hellana.com/maineng/lev1b...bc/optilux.htm
Probably I have have them mounted in bumper opening behind homemade grills. All 4 filaments will be triggered by hi beam only and controlled by a second factory fog light switch.
Tundraholic, what kind of driving light do you have in mind?

tundraholic I realize you probably have not had a chance to install this stuff yet, but was Mark or I able to answer your question for you? Just trying to make sure your questions were answered.

I think the easiest place to pickup the +12V for the coil of the relay will be off the high beam wire to the headlights. There are at least (2) other places to pickup a +12V or ground switched w/high beam signal under the dash, but I think they might be more trouble then they are worth.
There are plenty of good places in the engine compartment to mount a relay. You can run a single wire from the low side of the coil through the firewall grommet, to the switch you mount in the cab, to ground. You'll also have easy access to the battery to power your auxilliary lights by mounting the relay in the engine bay.
If you want more info. on the high beam switched +12V and ground locations, just PM or email me. One is at the Combination Switch in the steering column (as mentioned by Joe), and the other is at one of the connectors stuffed at the back of the firewall.

Tundraholic, I would locate the relay inside the drivers side kick panel myself. As far as the Hot wire for the highbeams I would think somewhere coming out of the Hi/Lo switch on the steering column you should be able to locate your Hot wire. Also this would give you short distances to run your wires inside the cab to your extra switch too. Only long wire run would be the one wire up to your lights (new extra ones).
I am sure Glenn or Mark will step in here and be able to tell you what color and where to find the Hot wire. Let us know how it turns out.

I am ready to install some driving lights to my Tundra and of course through a relay.
I want these lights to work only when the HI- beams are on and use a switch on the dash to control when they will be available.
I need to know where is the best( also EZ to find ) location to wire in the relay (activator) off the hi beam power. Should I wire in right behind the head light on the hi beam wire , or try to locate a wire out of the fuse box?
Or is there another wire that is HOT only when the Hi beams are working ?
Thanks Guys...........tundraholic
