Glad to hear it is fixed, Rick. It seems plausible what they told you as the IA4 is a BIG connector, and does make many connections to the ECU.

Hopefully, this will be the end to your problems. Enjoy your truck and TS-

Well, I had to leave the truck with them yesterday but they set me up with a rental. I just picked it up today and they found a bent pin on the IA4 (I think) connector that they claim was shorting to another connector causing a back feed to the ECM. Sounds almost 1/2 believable to me but if the problem is solved then I'm happy! I'll check current draw when I get home from work just to make sure. Thanks for the welcomes and the help guys.

Out of curiosity, I went and checked the current draw with the truck parked, nothing on, key out of ignition, etc.

Only 57 milliamps drain. So Rick, your nearly ~2amps is way wrong.

Again, let us know what they find...it will be interesting I'm sure.

Rick, welcome aboard the site, and Platinum to boot. Enjoy.

Some others have had problems with there batterys but typically it has been a corrosion issue or a battery simply going bad early. Can't remember anyone else with 2 batterys on a new truck so soon though. Sounds like there is another culprit at work here. I would suspect a bad altenator or connection myself but I am really unsure. Good luck and let us know what it turned out being.

Hey Rick-

Welcome to TS. It is nice to see you went for the Platinum membership after checking out the website.

The OBD fuse runs +12V to the OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) connector, which on my 2001 is tucked up under the dash, by the driver's right knee. If you look up underneath there, you should be able to find it.

It is interesting that you bring this circuit up as I tapped into it to power my alarm system. As far as I can/could tell, the +12V running through the OBD fuse only goes to that connector. If nothing is plugged into the connector, then there shouldn't be any drain, unless Toyota decided to tap into the constant +12V there as well.

I am not sure what else they have decided to run off the OBD circuit. I have looked at the 2002 Electrical Wiring Diagram Manual in the past and do not recall much if any difference between the 2001 and 2002 manuals. The fact that you hear a relay drop, tells us that something is being powered through the OBD circuit. What it is, I have no idea.

I do not know what the base current draw from the battery is. I would figure that there should be less than a few hundred milliamps draw with everything off and doors closed.

I assume they checked the alternator output last time. You may be on to something with your findings on the OBD circuit.

First off since I am a new member I'll introduce myself. My name is Rick and I live in Indianapolis. I just bought my 02 Tundra 4x2 V8 last weekend. I've been lurking here since then and I love this board already!!
Now I'll get to the details of my problem. I had to take my truck back to the dealer because it would be dead when I tried starting it. They replaced the battery. It lasted about 4 days and it went dead. I pulled each individual fuse in the cab and it made no difference on current draw (~1.9A). The only fuse that I pulled that made any difference is one in the engine bay fuse/relay panel that is a 7.5A labeled "OBD". When I pulled this fuse it would deactivate a relay and current draw dropped to about 2 or 20 mA.
I'll be taking my truck back again tomorrow but does anyone here know what normal current draw is on the battery when it is just sitting not running with no courtesy lights on?? Also does anyone know what that fuse "OBD" controls?? TIA!!
