Got to take it in to the dealer tomorrow for some more brake work...so will probably have them check out the integration relay. I probably blew it....and well, that's ok...I'll still have the mod when all is done and over.

More later....

Arkie,

Well, you actually answered your own question

I have them damned DRL's....and I wanted the switch to still show up at night with the other panel lights. The LED itself was some delicate work, but nothing to some of the other stuff I have had to do.

My only blunder here was not having a set of diagrams to connect to a proper point.

Just curious, but why did you decide to add another LED to the fog light switch? I posted the "fog light mod with a twist" discussion way back that was put in the Electrical Mods forum. In that post I described how to make the little light inside the fog light switch come on only when the fog lights are on. But that was for a non-DRL equipped truck, so I'm sure it would require some modification to work with the DRL equipped truck since the fog light wiring is totally different.

Another question, why is this post not in the Technical Forums section under Electronics?

It was getting dark, so I ended up not connecting the LED permanently. I did connect it (via clips) to the +12 (at the switch) and ground just to make certain the LED itself made it through the install. From the voltages I checked, ulitmately, I decided I would have to tap into the actual 12 volt feed at the fog lamps.

WIthout a diagram...I remember saying to myself...."I wonder if this sucker is going into some sort of logic gates due to the parameters of the fog lights." I think I better take myself over to a dealer and pick up the wiring diagram. Still, any help is appreciated!!

For those interested, the LED install came out looking clean and 'factory'. I didn't want it to look like one of those 35amp toggle switches on the dashboard. Once I get the headlights back on...ok, so I won't drive at night...I'll get the mod completed and will post it, step by step.

Mark440-

I looked at the schematic and I am having a difficult time coming up with an answer for you.

It is possible that your LED and resistor are effecting the diode logic in the Daytime Running Light Main Relay (which is mounted in the dash- not the DRL Relay under the hood) or in the Integration Relay.

I figure you must have tapped into the green/black wire on the fog light switch to power the LED, and tied the LED cathode to ground through the dropping resistor.

I think I would consider lifting one side of the LED and see if everything returns to normal operation. What exactly did you do? Does the LED light when you depress the Fog Switch?

Good Luck-

Mark

OK, I started...and the word here is STARTED a mod to include a LED indicator for the fog light switch.

I drilled a 3/32 hole in the top center of the switch following the overall slant of the switch. After some delicate work, I was able to mount a very tiny LED in the switch button, connect a 1/4 watt drop resistor, and route the wires out the back of the switch. It was getting dark, so I decided to close it all back up till the weekend.

I checked, and double checked any and all connectors (only two on that panel not including the alarm LED). Put everything back together, and danged...no regular low beams, no high beams when I push the lever towards the dash, and no fogs. I still have DRL's and also high beams when I pull the lever for a 'flash'. Get high beam indicator when 'flashing'.....but not when I turn on high beams.

If anyone has a wiring diagram, could you possibly check for the common element ?? I did check all fuses inside and under the hood.....all ok.

The only other testing I did was voltage checks across the fog switch terminals, as I only want the indicator to be on when the fog lamps are actually on. I also took measurements at the relay under the hood. (I removed relay then replaced. Have since removed again and checked to make certain I didn't snap off a terminal.)

It would make sense that there is possibly another fuse. Oh.....all other electrical functions appear to be normal.

Help would be appreciated so I can finish this mod and then post it.
