I use them alot. Travel back roads at night going home from work. Helps to see the critters running across the road. Sounds corny, but, I do not want to add to the road kill. I like the option of using them when I want them.
Again, another good mod that is almost no cost (need a 3M splicer to make it easy).

I really wish that they put in the same type of switch that controls the AC ant 4WD switches. When you activate the switch, the light in the switch comes on.
I want to do the mod so that I can drive off road with the headlights off and the fog lights on so that it only disturbs the wildlife close to me and not 1/4 mile away.
Whether or not it is illuminated doesn't matter. I just wanted it to work if it was supposed to.

I should have the "kink" worked out of the LED mod this weekend, and will post the results.

AND - just to set the record....

I enjoy going over to Shreveport a couple times a month to the casinos there. After a night of smoke filled rooms, the strobe effect of a slot machine, and loosing my shirt...my eyes are pretty tired when I head home...usally after midnite. And then you encounter the morons.

What really pisses me off is the morons who are using their fog lights as running lights. They are F-O-G lights. And they do very little to light up the road for any distance...unless you can't see past your own nose....which means you shouldn't be driving anyway!!

So, I discovered one night that I...humble me...was one of those morons and didn't know it. There is probably nothing worse than being a moron AND not knowing it! So, this mod is really about letting folks know that their danged fog lamps are on and there probably ain't two drops of fog in the air...!!!...and to turn them off and save them for a foggy day.

Sign me.... moron nomore

John-

If you check out Mark440's post in the main TundraSolutions Forum regarding Fog Lights, you'll read he is working on adding an LED to the button to act as an indicator.

This should work just fine, though he is having a little technical difficulty presently.

Also, arkie6 posted a way of rewiring the existing lamp in the switch to light ONLY when the fogs are on. Again, this is not to difficult to do, however, you lose the ability to see the switch at night unless the fogs are on.

Personally, the switch itself doesn't bug me enough to pursue either of these mods, though I am happy to provide assistance.

IMHO.....I wish Toyota had put a built-in amber light in the foglight button. As mentioned, you have to feel the button at night to see if its pushed in or out. Being illuminated is fine, but that doesn't tell you if it's on or off.
I had a Mustang that had that neat feature of a bright amber light within the switch that would illuminate when the fogs were on.
Just my .02

Thanks Mark,
I'll check it out on my next day off. While I have it out I may as well do the mod.

Yes Mike-

There is a small bulb in the switch housing.

I looked for the lamps at the auto parts store but could not find them. They are tiny, and the leads come through a little plastic screw-in base. I think you'll have to go to the dealer to find one, if in fact yours is burnt out.

There was another TS member who commented several times that his Fog Light Switch was not illuminated. If you remove the switch, you'll see the little lamps screwed into the side. Maybe it just isn't seat properly. Also, there is a hole cover for a second lamp that is unused.

I am pretty sure the Fog Light Mod with or without DRL's will tell you how to get to the switch. From there, remove the connector off the back of the switch and release the plastic tabs that lock the switch into the plastic cluster housing. Should not be too difficult to check out.

Are all of the fog light switches supposed to be illuminated?
I have a 2000 Tundra SR5 and the only way to tell in the dark if the switch is on is to feel and see if it is in or out. The road in front of the truck is better lighted, but that's beside the point.
Is the switch supposed to be illuminated?

Thanks,

Mike
