Default Under cab lights

What would it take to wire under cab courtesy lights to go on when the cago light comes on when you use the keyless entry to unlock the doors? Not looking to use any lights that are big just enough to put light on the ground to get in. Would a inline fuse and/or a relay be needed or would just splicing right into the cargo light switch work? Thanks for any help.

I have the "undercarriage lights" installed on my truck. That is a mod I plan on doing to ANY future truck I have. Mine are triggered by the cargo light, so when it comes on so do the undercarriage lights. I did use a relay on my install. If it were me I would NOT tap into the cargo light wire to "power" those lights. The cost of a new control module, last I heard was about $300, versus about $5 for a relay.

I would also recommend using the 55 watt "reverse lights" you can get at AutoZone or Pep boys. These provide a good amount of light but are not overpowering.

You are a Club Member, do a search on "undercarriage light" and quit a few threads will come up. Look especially at the ones with undercarriage in the title. There is ALOT of info in those old threads, what lights to buy, where to get them, how much, what trigger wire to use, where its located, relay diagrams, etc........................

Let me know if you cant find exactly what your looking for. I even did mine own write up on the install on these. Just need to find it on my computer if you need me to PM it to you.

BTW THESE LIGHTS are what I am using, work PERFECTLY and cant beat the price.

I'm note great at this electrical stuff but with info and pics I'll be able to handle it so if it isn't to much trouble I'd like to see your write up on how you installed them. In the FAQ it say's SPDT relay but in another post(I believe by you) it said a SPST relay---any difference or it doesn't matter? Where did you get the power for pin 30 (I assume this wire does not need an inline fuse) and what size fuse did you use for pin 87? A illustration of how you wired your realy would be helpful. I went thru past threads but I didn't find any installation pics that I remember seeing at one time if you could steer me in the right direction to find them. I think I'll just stick to my carpentry. Thanks for any help. LARRY

I've wired my "undercarriage lights" to the dome light function. My come on anytime the alarm system is locked/unlocked or if a door is open.

The dome light and door panel lights are controled by making a path to ground. I wired my relay in the driver side kick panel tapping into the ground path for the dome light. The power side of the relay is from battery directly.

I always wire a three position toggle switch inline with the relay too. Give 3 modes of auto, off, and manual.

The feature it the alarm system runs the dome light circuit for 30 sec after unlock, hence the undercarriage light are on when you walking un to your Tundra, on the flip the side the "lock" mode only runs the dome light for 3 sec. All since they are tied to the dome circuit, anytime you open the doors you got light at your feet.

I've also got a set of these lights in the rear, these tied to the reverse light circuit.

T-G--- That's basically what the cargo light does too. Would be interested to see any pics of how you wired the relay and what ground wire you used. What kind of lights did you install and from where? Thanks LARRY

I used the AutoZone lights. My under cabs lights are my old backup lights. Note off-roading and backup lights don't mix so well. So I purchased new back lights this set got demoted to under cabs.

I got pictures stored away in my home computer shoing the install pics and which wires I tapped into.

The courtesy lights and cargo light operate in slightly different manner. The cargo light stay lit longer when the alarm is locked. But think you could tie into either circuit based on your preference of operation. The cargo light circuit would give you control via the dash button too.

I guess I need to get around to doing a formal write-up for the mod section.
