Default How do I install fog lights in 2003 Tundra?

I am going to install fog lights in my 2003 Tundra.

I ordered a 2002 fog switch and will install it into the cutout to the left of the steering wheel. The 2003 factory fog lights actually has the switch in the head light stick. While I can order the 2003 fog switch, it looks nasty to install, so I'm going with the 2002 switch. I have also ordered the fog lights and fog light relay. But it is not clear how to wire a 2002 switch in a 2003 Tundra.

Anyone have information on how to wire a 2002 fog light switch into a 2003 tundra? Exactly where are the wires that the switch will tie into? Any details?

Appreciate any help ...

I'll make a couple of suggestions based on my re-wiring my 2000 and later my 2003 Tundra fog light switches.

The 2002 switch should mount in the rectangular opening in the dash next to the panel light dimmer switch. If you tap into the green wire on the back of the dimmer switch (don't cut it, just use a side tap) and connect to the power in side of your 2002 switch. This will allow you to have the fog lights on whenever the marker lights, low beams and high beams are on.

What I don't know is how to get power from your switch to the relay to turn on the fog lights. In my '03 I rewired the switch on the steering column light stalk to receive power from the dimmer switch to allow full control of the fog lights but I don't remember for the diagrams which wire came from the stalk switch to the relay. If you can figure out the wire color I'd bet it is in the wire harness that runs up the bottom of the steering column. Although you don't have the fog light switch on your light stalk, I'd bet the empty wire connection is there in the steering wheel harness. If you find the right color wire then I would side tap into it under the dash before it runs up the steering column and it should power the relay when you use the 2002 switch in the dash.

Thanks for the advice on the wire from the dimmer switch - good idea, since it allows me to have fogs on when I want them on. That takes care of one wire to the switch.
As to the other switch leg, I found the 2003 wiring diagram in the Electrical Shop forum. Appears to be a Green - Red wire coming from the relay to fog switch. I'll look for that, as you suggested, in the steering wheel wire harness when I open things up. I ordered all the parts from the dealer - fog lights, hardware, switch and relay. Will install later in the week along with activating the RS3200 alarm - I ordered the $20 diode and microphone. Quote from dealer was discounted down to $330 for the alarm!
Thanks again ...

Default How to install 2002 fog switch in 2003 Tundra

Well, thanks to all the help I got from members of TundraSolutions I installed OEM Fogs lights, 2003 fog relay (part#90987-02016) and a 2002 fog light switch (part#84160-0C010) in my 2003 Tundra. I also activated the RS3200 alarm, for $22.95 using part #08192-60880 (status monitor). The alarm works great using instructions I found on this web site. Thanks to postings from Infernl and nhParrot and others.

Here's how I wired the 2002 fog switch in my 2003:
The 2002 fog switch has 5 pins on it. I used 4 pins. Hold the switch in your hand, with the small double pins on the upper left. Hot wire goes to both of the small double pins. I ran a wire from the green wire from the dimmer and attached a single female connector to fit over both of them. The green wire from the dimmer is a good choice because you can have fog lights on with parking, high or low beams, but not with lights off. Thanks to MMitsock for that.
Below the small double pins, attach a ground wire to the small single pin. I ran a ground wire from the White-Black wire from the dimmer. This will illuminate the switch logo with dash lights - but it will not dim.
To the right of the small double pins, is a single pin to which I attached the wire from the fog relay. The wire which runs to the fog relay is found in the wire harness, running to the steering wheel. It is Green-Red. There are two Green-Red wires in my harness so I tested both for continuity with the fog relay socket (small left hand pin is the one to test in the fog relay socket - found in the fuse box in the engine compartment).
The switch fits very nicely in left most hole to the left of the steering column.
Very helpful for all this is the fog light wire diagram I found in one of the member forums and all the help from other members who install fog lights and posted the info.

Jibbydog,

I just got my status monitor and I noticed that it has two 2-pin connectors. I thought the connector was a 4-pin one. Is that what your status monitor looked like?

Thanks,

Yes mine also had two 2-pin connectors. You need to remove the pins with a safety pin, from the connectors and plug those 4 pins individually into the 4 pin connector behind the dash. Posted, somewhere on TS is detailed pictures showing exactly how to do it, including color code and activation. I think it was posted by Infernl or nhParrot. I don't remember exactly but all the info you need is already posted on TS, somewhere.

Try this thread and links in the thread: Alarm for '03 Tundra

or do a search on RS3200. Lots of info on it. Good luck!

I did not do any reprogramming, thought you can reprogram it for different functions. Locate the RS3200 manual on this web site. It's goes into reprogramming.

I did go thru the test procedure I found on this website.
