Default 03 Cargo light mod using stock switch?

I've read the multiple posts regarding the cargo light mod and hope there is an alternative to installing a different switch.

All I want is the light to turn on and off by pushing the factory switch. I don't need it when I'm moving and don't want it on and off when the door is open.

Is there a way to obtain this without the need for an additional switch?

Thanks

Possible, I would need to look at the wiring diagram.

Thanks.

Please let me know what you find. I have the fuse pulled right now, but would like the option of turning it on or off with the factory switch.

I agree it would be nice but, I think the switch is on the ground side. I was trying to find the connection of the integration control and the output of the speedo thru the integration relay (that gray area on the diagram with 3 R/B wires going in), hoping it was somewhere behind the kick panel. Since I don't know what it looks like and I couldn't find any R-B wires there, I gave up. This would be the ideal place to bypass everything and add a new hot wire. I, also, now know why the mod in the garage is so elegant. It's the only place where there is enough wire to work with. If anyone knows where that junction is and if it's accessable, it might be another way to do the mod. If I can get a lead on it's location, I'll try to do the mod.

I was looking in my notes and quite a while ago a mod like what you want was done, but I believe the write up was lost when the board was hacked and the database corrupted last year. If I remember correctly, the way the mod was done is the integration relay was bypassed. Power was jumpered from the fuse.

I would appreciate any insight or updates on the status of a mod like I'm requesting.

As mentioned earlier, I do have the fuse pulled... but it's not very convienent to plug it back in when you want to use the light.

I also don't have a problem saying that I'm at the mercy of this site when it comes to electrical mods. I'm a fairly competant wrench on almost anything, but I suffer terribly when it comes to looking at wiring diagrams and such. Although I don't have a problem with radios, speakers, amps, subs, etc, etc..... go figure...

Thanks Glenn, I'll start looking at the plugs to see if something can be done. I'll let you know what I find. Sorry, this will not be a fast process. I have to drive the truck every day.

I think the quickest solution is to rewire the cargo switch from a different source. Switche or un-switched, your choice.

Talked to a Toyota dealer elect. guru this morning. He said the switch is definitely on the ground side of the lamp. He noted that it sure was far away from the lamp, but, that is the way Toyota wires all the switches he has seen. Thus, you can't add power to the switch because it will run backwards thru the system. He thought I might find that gray area on the diagram is actually part of the integ. relay. But if I could figure out which one is the one going out to the lamp, that's the one to power-up. Then I will only need to decide switched or unswitched. From advice in the garage mod I searched for and found several rocker switches. I bought one that has a green light when in one of the on positions. It's an ON/OFF/ON switch so I want to try to wire it like the garage mod to include the door open option.
