Angry VIP RS3000 Plus,

I orderd a
VIP RS3000 Plus (complete kit)
Vehicle Intrusion security system.
MSRP: $247.68, I paid $180.00

I was shipped out a
part # 08586-0C810 Upgrade

I called and asked why I was shipped out a upgrade kit vs
the Complete system?
Reply: because it is all you need.
Well this may be true and I have no problem with that EXCEPT
for a $180 this is waht I received:
* Glass Breakage sensor
* Status Monitor
* Decal (saying vehicle is protected by VIP)
* Manual, Warranty card
* 10 Zip ties, peal and stick piece of Foam

I am missing:
Main Control Unit (ECU)
Remote Control Transmitters (2)

Now again I do not need the missing stuff.....except that there is
no way I am paying $180 for a upgrade kit!
And what happens when my key chain remotes break......
Yea, I will probably have to pay $50+ each for replacments.

I am sorry Toyota you are way over charging for this!
Oh, when I purchased my truck I was offered this for $500
Yea Right

Can someone offer me this kit cheeper ?
because this one is going back

Talking My .02 cents

IMHO, for $180, that's not too bad. Other years (i'm assuming yours is a 2002 w/ keyless remote) they are about $260. Besides it plugs right into the existing system. They don't have to cut in here and there. I figure it's using the trucks ECU to monitor everything anyway.

I agree, that they wanted $500 for a similar alarm when i bought mine, but i had them remove it. They're nuts to charge that price. But i'm picking one of these up real soon, and i don't feel it's too bad for $180.

You can always pick up a "better" system at a specialty shop. Personally I'll be happy with this setup.

Default my one cent

I bought the alarm upgrade kit a few months ago and installed it myself - fairly easy if you know where the main control unit and its harness are located.

I feel $180 isn't too bad, since the way I see it, Toyota has already installed most of the alarm system at the factory, (probably to make it easy for dealers to upgrade to the alarm). In other words, I paid $180 to get the functionality of an alarm, rather than I paid $180 for a few bits and pieces in a small box.

If you plan to install it yourself, I'll be more than happy to offer advice - it took me a while to figure out where the harnesses were to connect into.

I also am glad to help out all our supporters. We have the install instructions in the Audio & Security FAQ and I also have some other stuff that is not in the FAQ yet. If you need help, just post a thread in the "Garage" Audio & Security forum or PM me.

Thumbs up

Thanks Guys,

I am over it

I will install the alarm and be happy

It was just a shock to see a few pieces when the kit I orderd said
"complete kit" and showed a key chain remote.
I really wanted 2 extra keychain remotes.

Where is the main unit and harness???

If it was installed according to the directions it is near the firewall to the right side of the steering column.

Thanks guys,

I have completly installed the:
Glass breakage sensor
LED (status monitor) that goes on the dash

It does NOTHING

I can't get the system to activate the alarm.

I do know that the LED works.....because it will flash when I engage the panic mode.

We read the "programming" instructions over & over again,
No matter how long I hold the "Top" button on the keyless
remote.....nothing happens.

Tried this
1. Insert the key into the ignition switch, and turn it to ON (not ACC).
2. Using 1 Remote, press and hold both buttons at the same time for over 2 seconds, until the Status Monitor's LED turns on.
3. Within 30 seconds, select the operating mode
Still Nothong

HELP

One last thing,

I have not tried to program the ECU.

because it says to "add" a remote

I already have a remote and the keyless entry works great.
