Default Leaking battery

I have a Toyota True start 84 mo. battery that is leaking like crazy. I'll probably be taking it into the dealer this weekend for replacement.

My question is I have 2 amps a 4-channel PPI & JL 250/1. Could these be drawing so much as to cause it to leak or is it just a bad battery?

I don't have any extra electical draw like you and my original Toyota battery leaks as well. It is corroding the tie down. I looked around on a search and this appears to be a common problem with whatever battery Toyota gets supplied with.

Cool, thanks for the reply! I just didn't want them to have an excuse to tell me that they can't replace my 84mo. battery even if I've only had it for 24mo.

Those service guys act like they own the dealership. I guess part of their job is to make you (not Toy) pay for stuff.

If they give me a hard time what would be a good battery to go with?

I'm pretty sure mine is leaking at the seam on the side of the battery with the posts. My hold down was corroding as well, with no noticable corrosion coming from the posts. A friend noticed what looked like a leak from the back. anyway, I took it in, they replaced the hold down. I asked if the battery was leaking, and they said "no, this is normal". The truck is 6 months old. I'll be back in a few months to do it again.

One other thing, given this battery problem, a boat I have, and a recent battery failure in my wife's van, I've been researching batteries. Seems like the Optima is well liked these days, but also being mentioned in one named the Odyssey. I've looked at both, the Odyssey really seems like a winner. The best price I've found online was at www.batteriesforeverything.com (for the PC1200MJT). Otherwise (on the PC925MJT and other models), everyone seems to be about the same, with www.odysseybatteries.com being very helpful.

The Toyota battery in my 2000 Tundra started leaking a couple of months ago and I replaced it with an Optima Yellow Top from SAM's.

Unhappy Same here

2002 AC has the same corroding affect. I just try to keep it under control by keeping the engine compartment clean. A little engine brite for the metal, cover up the common electrical points and do a little hose down. After that just wipe the battery and keep it clean. I too am drawing extra power to a subwoofer and aftermarket hood lamp lights. I expect this to improve when it dies and I replace with optima. Just keep your wiring away and free from the battery corrosion.

My original battery in my last tundra started leaking at just over a year. I replaced it with an energizer that was still good when I sold the truck 3 years later.

I guess this battery I have is pretty bad because it dies fairly quickly when I run my system for 30-45 min. It's probably a better idea to get a better brand.

Thumbs down Me Too! Me Too!

My 2002 Access Cab also came with the "Factory Option" [LB] Leaking Battery. When the dealer replaced it they didn't even clean up in the engine bay, just slapped a new one in on top of all of the crud & corrosion. I was sick when I had it done (truck was in for front brake TSB) and wasn't thinking very clearly. Didn't notice the sloppy work until a few weeks later.

BTW, this was not Toyota Carlsbad where I purchased the truck. I don't want to give them a bad name. This was done at a dealership closer to home - for those familiar with the dealerships in the South Bay area it rhymes with Rank...

mine was leaking as well so I went with the d31m blue top optima. I have three 2ch amps. I also have a volt meter display mounted as in my pics. The optima keeps me over 14.0 no matter how I rage the tunes. My yota battery at the end would dip below 12 and leaked all over.

Optima batteries are good, but overpriced. The deep cycle marine batteries from advance auto work just as well. I've had one powering my 3kw system in my altima for a few months now and have had no trouble at all.

for those wondering: I'm using it as a auxilary battery. Its mounted in the trunk with the majority of the system. I have not even had the slightest smell emmited from it. Its great

Default Battery

After experiencing many of the problems described over the years I buy only one battery: OPTIMA.

I have been more concerned with leakage as it has caused more problems requiring metal and paint repair.

Optima all the way for this Tundra driver.
