Default No dash lights, rear driving lights or front driving lights all of a sudden

'02 Tundra SR5 V8 w/TRD package

The other morning I go to start my truck and notice that when I turn the lights on none of the gauges light and and the stereo doesn't dim. I figured it was a fuse but when I checked the fuse that I thought would handle all that (I think it was called Acc or something like that but it was the second fuse down on the middle row of the interior fuse panel) it was fine. I also pulled some other fuses that I thought might be possibly related and they were all fine as well.

This morning after a little further inspection I notice that when my lights are turned on my rear driving lights (the tail lights that are on all the time when the lights are on, i'm not sure if driving lights are the right term) don't light up and my front driving lights (the blinkers that should be on all the time when the lights are on) also don't light up. Blinkers light up when selcted and the brake lights come on when I apply the brakes.

Everything else on the vehicle seems to work just fine. So at first I didn't think it was that big of a deal to not have gauge lights but now that I found out that my rear driving lights aren't turning on I need to get this fixed asap.

Do any of you guys have any ideas before I give in and call the stealership?

Thanks
Dan

Sorry, I do not have my haynes manual here at work with me and the factory owners manual does not seem to list fuse locations at all. Where would I locate this fuse?

Second row, middle in driver's side junction box, labeled "GAUGE"

as I described above that was the first fuse I checked and it's fine. Also, how would that effect my front and rear driving lights?

well, i made an appointment with the dealership for first thing in the morning. Hopefully someone on here will be able to come up with an idea tonight otherwise I gotta let the pro's deal with it. I normally wouldn't but I don't like driving around w/o rear driving lights.

One other to look at is the 50A J/B under the hood.

Nope, as far as I can tell that one was fine. I tried to make sense of the wiring digrams and it looks like if the 10A fuse for the gauges was blown the dome light and the vanity lights wouldn't be working and they are. Off to the dealership it is.

I would like to take this time to voice an opinion. The mods on this site are far to anal about what topics go where. I think this thread would've gotten alot more attention if it was left in the Tundra section and I might possibly not be taking into the stealership tomorrow. Just my .2c.

Default I Disagree

I disagree. I pay very little attention to which forum a thread is in. I usually just hit the "new posts" button and bam, everything that is new is there. I have been watching this thread since it was originally posted.

This thread has received 76 views so far. How much more attention do you think that it needed? Glenn posted his first of three responses just 30 minutes after you started the thread.

Moderators, keep up the good work.

I appreciate his and everyones help but his first two responses were both in regards to something I had already checked and I mentioned that in my first post.

Is 76 views really that many on a forum site with 32,000 users.

Look at the thread in the tundra section called "See a Tundra? Say HI, how?". It's only a one page thread with 14 posts but it has 806 views.

I don't know if the mods would be up for this but I would like to do a test. Take my origional post, just the first one, and put it in the tundra section. See if I get more responses and views then it's getting in here. If I get the same or less then I will shut up. I have a feeling though that someone will be able to offer more insight into the problem.

dfinn, The Audio, Electrical & Wiring Forum was the appropriate forum for this thread. Believe it or not this forum is one of the most active on TS.com - 2285 threads with 17,386 posts; only second to the Engine & Drivetrain Forum. The moderator who moved the thread here did the appropriate thing. As far as your comparison, you are comparing your thread that has had 96 views in less than 24 hrs with a thread that has had 806 views since 06-06-2002. The math tells me that your thread got more exposure.

Good luck with getting your truck fixed, I looked over the wiring diagrams this morning for the circuits identified in your posts and did not come up with any other ideas. I would be interested to know the problem/solution.

Regards

I did forget to look at how old that post was before making the comparison.

Hopefully I will know by the end of the day today what the problem is. I will be sure to share the answer.

for anyone who cares the problem was in the wiring for my tow plug. Unfortunately I did not get to talk to the tech who worked on it and the service manager didn't have all the details but he said the wiring for my tow plug was aftermarket and not done very well, something in the wiring caused a short which caused the fuse for the tail lights to go. I'm not sure why I didn't think to check that fuse, I was focusing more on the interior lights. I also still do no understand how the tail light fuse could cause me to not have gauge lights but they disconnected the wiring for my tow plug and replaced the fuse and all is good now.
