Default Remote control windows

After 8 months of owning my Sequoia, I finally had some free time to play with it. I just finished wiring all 4 windows and the rear hatch window for remote activation. Here's what I used: Clifford Matrix RSX3.5 with 3 extra auxiliary channels, (2) DEI 530t modules, (2) 30-amp SPDT relays, (5) 1-amp diodes, about 100 ft of primary wire, and bunch of wire terminals. Here's how it works: if I press channel #3 one time, it will vent the 4 windows about an inch. If I continue to press the button, the windows will completely roll down. Armining the alarm will automatically roll the windows completely up unless you press channel #3 first which will allow the windows to stay vented or open. You'll need the 2 relays and 4 diodes for the rear window. Pressing channel #5 will roll the rear window down and #4 rolls it up. You could however do the same for the two front windows and sunroof without any modules by just sending a steady ground signal to the door unlock wire. This will roll them down but it doesn't work for rollup so the 530t's work really well for Sequoias if you want full control. It took me about 8 hours to complete, but its great for summer heat especially with remote start. I get all my tech support from "the12volt.com" which is a great sight for vehicle security and audio. My next goal is to try and figure out how to turn on the rear defogger during remote start since Sequoias use a momentary type of button, anyone done this yet?

Mods so far:
Factory style Spoiler
Clifford Matrix RSX3.5 remote start and windows
L.E.D. signal light bars mounted to the running boards
PPI Art Series amp running at 4x75 watts RMS
Kicker 1" tweeters for the second row (for DVD dialogue)
Kicker 4x10" for 3rd row mounted in the pocket openings
10.4" flip down monitor in 2nd row domelight spot Relocated the dome lights further back
7" monitor installed in the glovebox
Blaupunkt DVD player
Pyle TV tuner
Kenwood Keg 10gig harddrive
Factory blackwood molded trim
TRD leather/suede seats and door panels
TRD air filter
Over a 1000 ft of extra wiring installed...not kidding!

Future plans:
Stereo auxiliary adapter to replace FM modulator
Rearview camera
Exhaust system
Leather/wood or just leather steering wheel
Subwoofer...possibly Infinity Basslink
20" BBS RW wheels...same as the TRD editions but 20"

The funny thing was that I had my mind set on buying a Pilot, picked out the color and exact model. But just a couple of weeks before scheduling when to pick up the Pilot, I happened to stop by a Toyota dealership and took a Sequoia for a test drive for fun...I never went back to the Honda dealer.

I'm actually one of the few who doesn't have a digital camera yet. As soon as I get one, I will be sure to post some photos since I also need photos for the insurance company!

I've been wanting to do something like this ever since I got my Sequoia. Would there be any way to simply tap into the factory wiring for those functions?

I had a VW and someone built a module that simply tapped into the factory wiring and did all those functions. It was really easy for anyone to install and became a popular mod and a big seller on the VW boards. Here's the device: http://www.alientech.net/ It was one of the best things I bought for the car.

The VWs basically have the same functions as the Sequoia using the key in the driver's door. It would be awesome if someone could built something similar for Toyotas. I'm sure it would turn out to be a big seller .

As mentioned, you can do the same with Sequoias since they have somewhat similar wiring as VWs. I did the 4 windows and sunroof on my Jetta with just (2) 30amp relays to rollup and rolldown with a remote. All you're pretty much doing is sending ground signals to the lock/unlock wires similating the key turning the lock. This setup works with the Sequoias 2 front windows and the sunroof only. The only problem is, I believe for safety, is that you can't roll them up remotely this way. For Sequoias, the 530t modules require you to run 4 wires into each door since they have there own seperate modules whereas most cars can be done in the drivers door...takes a lot of time!

Default Clifford Alarm and Mods

I have a Clifford G5 Avantguard 5 system on the way to me as I type this post and plan to do something similar. I'm primarily interested in rolling windows UP with arming. I did order three 530T units (just in case) and primarily want to be able to vent all windows (including sunroof) from remote and auto roll up on arming.

I guess I could configure it to arm and leave the windows down since I'll be installing a proximity sensor to trigger the alarm if someone were to reach their hand inside the vehicle.

The system comes with a battery backed siren, but will likely add air horns per the advice of a friend to compliment the noise making power of the siren. The system has an interface cable so that I can use my laptop (and included software) to program several settings on the system. You can set timed outputs, etc.

I'd sure be open to any advice that you could share. How did you wire the 530Ts to vent? Is this something that is automatic when you remote start the system? I'm just now looking at wiring diagrams and starting to plan out the installation. I'd like to automate several components of the vehicle, but don't want to go overboard with mods.

The vent feature is standard on the 530t. The module allows you to vent, partially or fully open, and close 2 windows per module. It'll also allow the rear passengers to have one-touch open/close controll just like the front windows. Installation on the Sequoia is pretty standard besides the fact that you have to run wires into each door instead of just the driver's. I found it easiest to use one 530t for the passenger side windows and the other for driver side windows, simplifies wiring. Mount each module in the kick panels with their common wires connected in the center of the dash. From there you can just use T-taps to run single wires to appropriate sources....wires 2 modules at the same time.

Default Getting set up and ready to wire

Can you remember or easily see which wire colors that you tapped into for your setup?

I had a slightly different configuration in mind. Let me run this by you and get your feedback. I don't know if it's a good idea, but I was thinking that this would be a way to run everything. My primary demand is having all windows roll up (including sunroof) upon arming of the alarm system. Rolling down with remote is a nice luxury that I don't really need, but if I can do it without a WHOLE LOT more effort, I surely shall.

Here's what I had in mind for the TWO 530Ts that I ordered for this project:

530T module 1 (strictly for rolling UP windows/sunroof upon alarm arming):
** would probably NOT connect the AUX input wire

wire 1: ground to "lock" wire in driver's door to roll up BOTH front windows and sunroof
wire 2: ground to tailgate window "lock" wire to roll it up
wire 3: ground? to roll up wire on motor in Driver REAR door to roll up that window
wire 4: ground? to roll up wire on motor in Passenger REAR door to foll up that window

530T module 2 (strictly for rolling DOWN windows/sunroof via remote):
** would probably NOT connect the GROUND WHEN ARMED wire

wire 1: ground to "unlock" wire in driver's door to roll down BOTH front windows and sunroof (while button is pressed).
wire 2: ground to tailgate window "unlock" wire to roll it down
wire 3: ground? to roll down wire on motor in Drivers REAR door to roll it down
wire 4: ground? to roll down wire on motor in Passenger REAR door to roll it down

+ note: I do understand that the module is made to roll TWO windows in TWO directions, but was told that the module can be wired to roll FOUR windows in ONE direction (hooking the two roll UP wires on the roll DOWN module to the "opposite wire").

Obviously, I'm utilizing the factory feature that allows you to turn the key in the driver's door to LOCK and roll UP the two front windows AND sunroof and also using the lock wire in the tailgate that also rolls up the rear tailgate window. (I'm very curious to know if I can just hook in at the switch on the dash instead of running a wire all the way back to the tailgate).

I'd also LOVE to get a wiring diagram of the power window wires. I've hesitated to pay for subscription to TS.com because I'm not SURE that the information is included with the wiring diagrams. If anyone can confirm this, please let me know. It would certainly be worth the $25 annual.

Any advice is also appreciated. I plan to install this thing the first chance that I have a full day or two with nice weather (no garage). My email is: bretbowman@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance for anyone's help that can be offered!

Bret
