Cargo Light, High Mount Brake and Camper
I want to install a camper shell on my 2000 Tundra. I've seen at least two trucks around town where the heat from the cargo lights or high mount break light have burned the lens above the bed of the truck because of their proximity to the camper shell.
I'm looking for a switch so that I can switch the juice from the high mount brake light/cargo light to the camper I will install later.
I need a double throw double throw (DPDT) switch. However, unlike all the switches I've found, I need something without an OFF position. I need some thing with two positions (On-On) so that I can switch the lights from the normal operation to "camper" when the camper shell is installed.
In other words, when the camper is not installed the cargo and high-mount brake light will work properly when the switch is set to "normal."
When the camper shell is on the bed, I can move the switch to "camper" and the juice for the high mount brake light will power the brake light in the camper and the juice for the cargo light will power another light within the camper. The high mount brake/cargo lights on the cab of the truck will not function and I don't have to worry about frying the lens.
My truck has never had a camper shell and when I looked at the lamps within the high mount brake/cargo light they were BADLY misshapen and the reflectors were burnt. I temporarily solved this problem by installing lights from superbrightleds.com. The LED's cut down on the heat significantly and I shouldn't have the problem again BUT I see no need for the lights when I have a camper shell on.
I guess my question is this: Where do I find a DPDT (On-On) switch to satisfy my needs and what is it called? In 90% of my wiring dilemmas, I find that my limited knowledge of electrical terminology is the problem.
Any suggestions are welcome...
Thanks
