I Need help installing Daytime Running Lights
Excellent forum, so glad to find info and tips for my first Tacoma!
Please help me with some information on installing daytime running lights
In order to import my 2003 Tacoma into Canada, I need Daytime Running Lights installed (required by law). I've searched previous posts, but can only find debates about having them(why bother?), and how to disable DRL's.
The dealer seems to think I need a whole new wire harness, and relay that will cost around $900 installed?
I'm no electrical genius, but that sounds absurd! Why would Toyota produce two separate harnesses, to incorporate such a simple function?
I am hoping the solution is as simple(cheap) as installing a module/relay into the existing wire harness. The following post has me wondering if I can wire the headlights in myself:
Just a note on how Toyota DRLs work...Toyota switches the negative side of the headlights. The lights are always connected to the positive side. With DRLs, the negative side goes through a resistor that drops about 3 volts. When the headlights are switched on, the resistor is bypassed for full voltage through the headlights.
I would be very gratefull for any suggestions/solutions, and the parts required!
Thanx
