Default RS3000 Security, TOTAL RIP OFF

my tundra has the keyless entry and requires the upgrade to make it to a full blown alarm system. I just purchased one yesterday for $220 and all I got was a glass breakage sensor and a flashing light, few tie straps and 2 stickers. WHAT A HUGE RIP OFF! I feel like I was RAPED BY TOYOTA. If you purchased your truck w/ the keyless entry, the rs3000 is already preinstalled, they just dont tell you that. The alarm does work w/o the glass breakage sensor, havent tried it w/o the flashing light unit. I dont know if you can program your truck to activate the existing alarm on it without purchasing the upgrade kit. You may want to try this, doesnt hurt, and hopefully save you over $200. Anyway, to activate it, turn ignition to the "ON" position and press both buttons on your transmitter for over 2 seconds ( i held mine for 5 sec), then press the top button once to activate (button you use to unlock your truck). All this should be done w/in 30 seconds or else it goes back to its original state.

Oh btw, I did leave one important step out, theres a 8P connector which is connected to the ignition switch that needs to be disconnected (on the right side of the steering column). Requires removal of the kick panel. next, unplug the other 8P connector next to it (look like an 8P connector that loops into itself). Once unpluged, connect the ignition 8P connector into the one you just unpluged and the other into the ignition plug. That should get your RS3000 plugged in and ready for programming.

Let me know if this works, so we can pass on the savings to other toyota tundra owners.

Has anyone checked this out yet? I don't know what an 8P connector is so I haven't tried it yet.

I've heard of Mr. Happy, but I've never called "him" Mr. Pink.

Congrats on an inventive nic!

Default Ref: starter kill

an 8P connector is basically a plug w/ 8 wires connected to it, it should be the only one connected near the ignition switch. The starter kill, flashing parking lights, door protection, RS3000 ECU, buzzer and wiring is all preinstalled at the factory if you purchased your tundra w/ the optional keyless entry. The only things you dont get is the red flashing light, and the Glass Breakage Sensor. ah yes... things Toyota dont tell you.

rllanes,
I can understand you being angry that this upgrade is so expensive. But it is smart thinking on Toyota's part to make the keyless entry easily upgradable to the full blown RS3000 security system.

FYI, the Installation instructions for installing the RS3000 upgrade to a keyless entry system is available in the Audio/Video & Security FAQ published in the "Garage". If you were a TS Supporter and had reviewed the installation instructions, you would have known what the upgrade package contained.

I followed your directions exactly today. It works and the best part is that it only took 15 minutes. I was wondering what would happen if a thief just disconnected the 8P connector? Does the stock alarm have a backup battery?

What a great tip. I plugged in the connector and turned on the key then held both buttons for a couple of seconds then pushed the door button IT WORKS.
I also found a grey wire that I assume goes to the alarm light?
I watched it change with my multi-tester when I set the alarm.
Thanks for the great tip and sorry about the $200 spanking. ...kp

For the alarm light, do we just get any led light or a blinking led?

They'd be able to start the vehicle like it didn't exist (because it no longer does).

Anyone know if this works on the Sequoia? I imagine it would. I have the keyless entry, and odd enough the glass breakage sensor, just didn't want to pay extra for the RS3000 alarm.
Just to make sure where you all are looking, I need to take off the lower part of the dash, under the steering wheel, so I can get to the wires? Thanks for your help.

I don't think the Sequoia system is the RS3000.

I had the guy at the local audio and alarm shop activate my alarm just like you said. He charged me 40 bucks and it works well. One question. Do you know how to disable the passive alert. In other words I don't want my alarm set while in my garage but even if i don't set it i come back and its set but with the doors unlocked. They guy said he would need the manaul but that I probably just needed to recode to get rid of the passive alert. Can anyone help me with this. I want to be able to NOT set the alarm and NOT come back to the truck and find it automatically set itself. Thanks

If you mean disable the passive arming, then the instructions for that is in the Audio/Video & Security forum of the "Garage". See the thread "HOW TO: Programming the RS3000" or see the Audio/Video & Security FAQ.
