Question day time running lights

What is the reason to disable the DRLs? Just for looks?

Some places require lights out--the gate at a military base, for one example. Headlights are required to be off when loading on a Washington State ferry, but I've always gotten away with the DRLs. Too bad Toyota didn't give us an easy option. On my Volvo, when the switch is in parking light position the DRLs are off. I guess Toyota's engineers aren't as smart as Volvo's.

At our Astronomy Club dark sight, if you show up with your lights on or drive out with them on you're likely to get shot...

Don't like coming home at night and having light shine in through my son's windows, even though the blinds are closed.

I also don't like worrying about killing my battery if my ACC/IGN swith is on and the parking break isn't (ie. DRL's come on).

It's also nice to be able to turn on my brights AND DRL's out in the desert/mtns and see a little more road and distance.

It's a quick mod definitely worth doing!

Default DRL D7 connector location

Does anybody know where the D7 connector location is for the disabling of the DRL's? I don't want to go ripping my rig apart looking for something that might be obvious. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try either of these two to get your answer:

1. Become a TS Supporter (by clicking on the TS Supporter button halfway down the main table of contents forum page) and gain access to Lon's Garage, the section of the website jam-packed with great info like the DRL modification instructions, or you can click on the word "Subscribe" located in the footer at the bottom of this webpage, or:

2. Do a search from the "Search" button located on the menu-bar in the top right corner of most TS web pages. This will return topics/threads that mention your search terms, but are not isolated to the Supporters-only areas.

Its worth it to become a supporter you can get almost any info on any mods from the Garage section.
I jus recently became a member It was only $12 but I got in about a week too late when they raised it to $18.
The mods real simple I would tell you but a Moderator would just pull it off the thread like below. If you do a search you can prob get enough info from other threads to do it, but I think the membership is worth the $18.

D7 is the Daytime Running Light Relay, located behind the dash above the Center Airbag Sensor Assembly.

Angry Dealer tried to rip me off!

I recently tried to disconnect the DRL's in my Tundra. The first couple of times I was unsuccessful. I then went to the dealer and asked if they could do it for me. The salesperson told me, "We would have to have your truck for a day. We have to rewire the whole entire system to disable the lights and that'll cost $180 dollars plus labor. You cannot just simply unplug the resistor to disconnect them." Well I guess I must have broke something because now my DRL's are disabled. My lights do work at night. Funny how things work out huh?
