Default 01 Tundra LTD W/ Factory Alarm - Remote Start Questions?

I have a 2001 Tundra LTD with the Securikey Alarm system. Spoke with my local Toyota dealer who just shuddered when I asked about remote start options. He said he has seen many, many problems. I am now living in Alaska. This will be my first winter up here and remote start seems to be what every one around here has. However, I don't know anyone with a Tundra who has remote start. ????

What model / make of remote start products work best in the 2001 series of Tundras? Will I have to replace the factory alarm or can I just add remote start and leave the alarm alone?

Thanks!

I also have a 01 Tundra Access Cab but I don't have the factory alarm. Anyway I am getting ready to install a BOA Remote Start with Keyless Entry System. The BOA line is made by Directed Electronics. It is a do it yourself kit that I purchased from Target for $60.00. I will let you know how it works. I believe they have a stand alone Remote Start Kit as well which should allow you to retain your factory system.

my dad has a 2000 v8 limited and he had the crimestopper remote starter installed. its been 5 years now and still no problems, it has an amazing range on the remote too. you can get it with an alarm as well which i'm wondering about as i'm buying it off him next august, im not sure if you can get the alarm feature added on or if i need a whole new system, but anyways for remote start i'd recommend this one.

Do you know what model he used? Did your Dad's 2000 Tundra have the Securikey System?

i dont know to be honest, it's a 2000 limited with everything you could have gotten on it that year, i know it came with keyless but not sure about securikey. anyways crimestopper probably doesnt sell that model anymore but whatever new one they have will probably be just as good if not better.

Here in Alaska autostart is a pretty common thing, the bad thing is so are problems. I want to make sure I have a specific model with installation instrctutions that I know has worked in another 01 Tundra with the same SecruiKey system that I have. I am willing to forgo the factory system if the replacement system is a good one. When it is 10F it is sure nice to come out to a warm rig. However, I would rather have a cold rig than go through all the problems.

hey i have a 2001 Tundra, but its base model so no factory security here, I got a DAE remote starter from a local shop and it works very well, no problems with it at all, I would recoment have proffesionals installing it, it will coast some extra $, but it will be done right, and you will have absolutly no problems with it.

I love having a remote starter during winter time!
If you want to get get brand new alarm with everything, i would recomend Viper.
