Dash indicator light problem

Does anyone have an idea/solution for this issue. On my 02 Tundra, the green "D" light in the instrument cluster that indicates when the shift lever is in drive is blinking. I've replaced the micro bulb twice and it will work for a little while then it starts blinking then goes out. Is the sensor for these lights at the transmission or the steering column? How can I test the circuit?
